billygoat
I believe it is the fact that rubber is non-absorbing, so therefore it cannot retain odor... all I know is trappers have been using rubber boots and gloves to catch redfox w/ great success... As far as warm... Anymore you can buy boots up to 1200 grams (LaCrosse, Rocky, Browning) Just to name a few. Looks also like you indeed got busted by that buck. Jeramie
Re: Rubber Boots Yep, you need to switch to rubber too. I wear some leather hunting boots but they live outside. Ive still been busted by deer too. Rubber makes a huge difference. As goat says, you can get them with as much thinsulate as any other boot. Most of the major manufactures make a great rubber boot too. They will make a huge difference in your hunting, even if you buy a cheap pair. You could very well be blowing your chances due to scent. If they bust you before they get to you its over. Also, once you start getting busted the deer have a tendency to associate the area with danger so they change patterns. Spraying the bottom of your boots wont be enough. I often step in cow pies to help but there is still a great chance they will wind you. The rubber boots can make a huge difference, especially bow hunting.
VTbowman
Re: Rubber Boots I live in up state VT and use a 600 gram thinsulate Ranger rubber boots and 2 layers of socks. My feet stay warm and sometimes will sweat if I walk to briskly. If that happens then they will get cold. You can avoid that by using a polypropalene (sp) sock against your skin and a heavier wool blend sock over that... The poly will wick away sweat... I buy my boots a size bigger for added air space and to be able to layer more then 2 pair of socks if needed. I have not needed more then 2 pair.. I have watched deer, doe and bucks, walk right up my trail and cross it more times then I care to recall... I am 1000% convinced the rubber boots will keep the scent down to a minimum. BTW I always tuck my hunting pants into the boots too. Good Luck.
MUDRUNNER
Re: Rubber Boots I USE REDHEAD RUBBERBOOTS WITH 1000GRAMS THINSULATE.2 PAIR OF SOCKS KEEP MY FEET PRETTY GOOD TILL ABOUT 15 OR 20 DEGREES.YOU CAN ALWAYS GET BOOTS WITH MORE THINSULATE FOR COLDER TEMPS.I AM A FIRM BELIEVER IN THEM AND HAVE HAD DEER USE MY SAME PATH SEVERAL TIMES.I ALWAYS SPRAY COON URINE OR FOX URINE ON THE BOOTS BEFORE I WALK IN AND IT SEEMS TO WORK PRETTY GOOD. carbonhunter
Re: Rubber Boots I use lacross Alpha Burlys, un-insulated and i wore mine all fall without getting cold, plus thay have a built in arch, and dont mind wearing them on long bird hunts when the ground is wet. Awsome boots i bet the thin-sulate models would be super super warm.

magnatecsteve
Re: Rubber Boots I never go out without rubbers....boots that is! You can slip through the woods without leaving your stink trail. I've had several deer come accross my entry path and have never noticed a deer get spooked. Just keep the outside clean and spray em with scent-a-way.
