coles
im thinkin about askin for a video camera to use for videoin hunts next year and i dont have any idea what to ask for. what would you guys recommend? i have seen the ones they use on dream season and those would be awesome but im sure they are very expensive. so what is a moderate priced camera that isnt huge and would stand up to the abuse of huntin trips? any info helps. wtnhunt
Re: good video camera? Got a sony handy cam here and have been very happy with it. The model I have(dcr-hc96)is a mini dv and is in the $600 price range. Takes good clear sharp video and has a pretty good zoom too. If I had high speed, I would upload some of the video I shot from it from this past season.
bowhtr1
Re: good video camera? I agree with the Sony. I bought the DVD92. Small and it has a 20 X optical zoom. Get as big optical zoom as you can I think 20 may be the max at thist time. My last one was a Sony and i dropped it from my stand twice. 20 ft one time and 25 the other time. It hit the steps of my ladder on one of them. I got down put the battery back on and it worked fine. I wont buy another brand now. I finally went underwater with it when I fell in a creek. After drying it out it still worked but had a halo effect when filming. What else can I say. Good luck

Guest recurve
Re: good video camera? Find you a used GL1 - that has not been used for editing. The old Canon GL1 is hard to beat and will give you results like you see on TV......

wtnhunt
Re: good video camera? [ QUOTE ] What about the new Sonys with the hardrive memory instead of using tapes? [/ QUOTE ] Seen them, actually looked at those and at the dvd camcorders when I bought my sony, but was suggested for editing ease to go with the mini dv over the dvd. Dont recall reading or hearing anything good or bad about the hard drive camcorders.
Guest ILclimber
Re: good video camera? Hey coles, yes the sony handy cams/mini DVD cams are great, are you wanting to produce your own video's? My partner and I bought a Canon GL2 last year. They are expensive ($2000), but the picture quality is something you will never get with the sony's. My partner and I filmed for two years with the sony and then when we bought the GL2, the difference was amazing!!!!! It has made our production video's just amazing to watch! You can check out ebay, there are a million on there, see what deals you can get!

wtnhunt
Re: good video camera? With that in mind, would highly recommend the model sony I am using. Has great features and has very clear and sharp video.
Guest Finn
Re: good video camera? I just bought and used a Sony DVD105 this past December. Seemed to work pretty good and the picture quality was fine. Paid just under $500 for it. It was one of the few that was quiet to work Would love to have a GL2, but can't buy a $2000 camera. brownie65
Re: good video camera? I also have a Sony. Great camera. Works great. I also dropped mine from my deer stand, 25' up, figured it would be junk. It still works great. I really don't want to drop it again but it is a tough camera.
