Has anyone shot one of the new tactical turkey guns mossberg and remington have put out? I've read a couple of reviews that say good things about them and was thinking about getting one. What do u guys and gals think about them?

I think they look silly. You asked. grin.gif

They could well be a major improvement over the standard old turkey gun. I don't know. I've never had that much trouble holding on to my scatterguns to wish I had a pistol grip or thumbhole stock.

It'll be interesting to hear from those who've actually spent time with them.

I SHOT THE MOSSBERG TACTICAL 12 GAGE WITH THE RETRACTABLE BUTT STOCK. I WOULD SAY THAT IT KICKS LIKE A MULE, THERE IS NOTHING BETWEN YOUR SHOULDER AND THE GUN BUT A BUFFER PLUG AND SPRING.AND I WAS SHOOTING A 3IN SHELL...DONT EVEN WONT TO THINK ABOUT A 3 1/2.

Re: new tactical turkey guns that are out

i will never put a pistol grip on a shotgun. i shot my father-in-laws mossberg 500 with a pistol grip and thought it was the worst thing i had ever felt in a shotgun... maybe it was just the mossberg, but i blame the pistol grip

I don't care if they are the best shooting guns out there. Like Strut said they are the ugliest looking guns i have ever seen and wont be caught carrying something like that into the woods regardless of how it shoots. And I have to agree with what AJ said, same gun just weirded out stock.

Re: new tactical turkey guns that are out

I thought the big selling point was that the pistol grip somehow cut recoil since some of it was absorbed by the hand and wrist. Why would a pistol grip shotgun kick more than a regular one? I would think weight would be the main consideration. Anyways I think they are a bit over the top myself. I'll stick with my BPS until the itch gets too bad and I have to scratch it with another gun.

Dido I shot the 535 version a couple weeks ago, KICK dosnt describe the word. it was a 3 1/2" turkey load and i would say its more on the lines of being hit by a bus. I like things that make BIG bangs with big bullets but that was a little much. in the same outing i had a chance to shoot .375 h&h double rifle. I think id rather shoot a turkey with it.

Re: new tactical turkey guns that are out

AJ said you COULD buy a $50 plastic stock and make your gun look new. I don't think AJ is suggesting anyone buy a cheap look alike stock.

Stocks are really an integral piece of the firearm's ability to absorb recoil. The higher end composite stocks are engineered to flex or compress upon firing a shot which in fact does absorb some recoil. They also have better quality recoil pads.

I personally don't see how a thumbhole grip will lessen felt recoil to any noticable degree, unless you are gripping the stock really tightly. This seems like a good way to draw the gun away from a steady hold. I was taught to relax, keep a firm but relaxed grip and let your body move with the recoil. You have to become a unit.
