Was hearing on the radio this morning that in California they are trying to pass new legislation where it will become illegal to in any way spank your kids mad.gif at all as it causes traumatic problems blush.gifcrazy.gif. This punishable by jail time of a year crazy.gif, so if it passes and you spank your kids for them doing wrong, now they will get to watch you go to jail shocked.gif in the state of California.

This seems to me to be way over the line, even for California. I really have to wonder just where this world is headed to. Think kids having control over their parents is a big problem in this country today already, this if it passes will only make those problems worse frown.gif.

Agreed. While spanking may not be the best method of discipline for all kids, it definitely needs to remain an option for those parents whose children do respond to that type of action.

It always worked on me! blush.gif

Just remeber that when you select someone to represent you in the government. Sad thing is wtn - there are a lot of people out there that are in-line with this type of legislation and are more than willing to give up all rights to a government for the sheer reason that they don't want to take responsibility.

Uh yeah you are right PH, but I do not vote in California. What really concerns me more is that this is where our current speaker of the house is/was legislating from.

As far as all kids needing punishment, I agree it is not necessarily needed as a punishment for all kids, but kids do need to learn consequences for wrong actions, what do they learn here with this crap? If I don't like how my parents want me to act, all I have to do is say they spank me, or the worse that will happen to me is they can lecture me. Some kids that is just not going to work.

The government needs to focus more on more serious issues. Abuse and drug problems need more attention than kids who are being punished for doing wrong.

Re: Stupid legislation-blasted liberal idiots!!!!

Aren't there already laws on the books dealing with child abuse? If a parent crosses the line between discipline and abuse when hitting their child, they're in big trouble now. Why do we need another, even more strict law to prevent child abuse?

Oh wait, I get it! This is just like gun control laws. Even though it's already illegal to use a gun in a crime, or to even touch a gun if you're a convicted felon, we still need more laws so that those of us who would never consider using a gun for criminal purposes (or abusing our children) won't ever be tempted to make that mistake.

Hogwash and bilgewater. What a bunch of idiots.

I believe the proposed legislation pertains only to children under the age of 3.

Not that I agree with the legislation, but personally, I did not spank my kids untill they were around that age.

[/ QUOTE ]

That is not what they were saying on the radio Chris.

But I do agree about not spanking kids too early before they can understand. Not often that my kids get spanked, but they do.

The proposed legislation is for 4 and younger. Seems to me, most of the spankings I dealt to my children happened between the ages of 3 and 5. I don't think I've spanked any of my children past the age of 6 or 7. Once they know who's in charge, they shape up quick IMHO.

Aides to the assemblywoman said they are still working on a definition for spanking.

They might want to get this hammered out before they move on, don't ya think? grin.gif

This is just another example of the sissification of America. I learned more from one hard slap across my backside growing up then I did anything else. That being said, I've seen some bad parents hit their kids in public for little or no reason, and I don't think that's right either.

As long as its done is a proper, controlled manner, I think slapping is a good way to discipline kids, but it should never be done out of frustration or laziness. IMO

Very true. Really sad that people out there cannot control themselves and are abusive and legislation like this is even considered.

Honestly dont think though that this will solve any problems with abuse as those who abuse children are already breaking the law. Seems like a waste of time and effort honestly and will only lead way to more kids becoming more out of control.
