SRTMO
My wife and I are plannning a trip to see her parents in Iowa this year during the deer season for 2007-2008. This will be my first out of state hunt and I have a question. Although you can't buy the 2007-2008 licenses yet I was looking at the IOWA DNR website and was wondering if I was correct in guessing that I needed the Non Resident Fur Harvest license for deer? Will I be able to hunt any unit I like or will they assign me a unit? Her folks live in Unit 9. Thanks
Bowhntr
Re: Iowa Non Resident You will not need the fur harvest license to hunt deer. However, double check and make sure that the license that you want is not a draw license. Most of Iowa's non-resident stuff is a draw and some is pretty tough to get. Also, you will buy a tag for the unit/zone that you select and that is the zone you must hunt. Sounds like you need to try for zone 9, but be sure about that draw. jnrbronc
Re: Iowa Non Resident You will need to apply for zone 9 and the season (bow/shotgun). You can buy preference points for the draw, I think. Odds are that a non-resident will get drawn 1 out of 3 years, so don't get your hopes too high. horst
Re: Iowa Non Resident No fur harvester license required. youll need a deer license, regular paid hunting license, and habitat stamp. This should get you to where you can purchase all of them online. The application periods May 6 to June 4. http://www.iowadnr.com/wildlife/files/deerappl.html Heres the zones, youll want to pick the one youll be hunting in, NR licenses arent good state wide. http://www.iowadnr.com/wildlife/files/deerappl.html But the odds of drawing a either sex tag in your first application are very slim to none.Doe tags are another story, you may be able to get one of them if your set on hunting while your here.Otherwise youll probably have to wait 2 to 3 years to get enough preference points for an either sex tag.
