........both foxes and coyotes this time of year?? Gonna go out callin the next few nights. I'm using a homebrew CD caller system of my own design. There are all 3...red & gray fox and 'yotes in the area. What calling sounds do you think would be the best for having a chance to call in any or all 3 vermin???

Coyote vocalizations are starting to be more effective now. But they won't call in fox. You can still call coyotes with distress but it is a little harder to get them to come to distress this time of year.

[/ QUOTE ]oh yes some coyote vocals will bring in foxes . note i said some... and imo distress calls work the best for me in wisconsin this time of year were food is scarce and a the sound of a hot meal will sent them blazing in Rabbit distress and mouse squeaks should work good for you

Re: What sounds for calling...........

Generally the cottontail and jackrabbit distress work well on all three. This time of year the coyote vocalizations do better with coyotes at times. If you can find it I would also suggest loading the snow shoe hare distress and a chicken distress - trust me the chicken distress has caused many many coyotes to die. Another one that comes to mind would be the grey fox pup distress.

I've never hunted fox as we don't have them around here, but I have had a terrible year with the yotes when using distress sounds. I've been using the howls a lot more lately and things are really turning around. About a month ago I howled in this male. He actually had a deer leg in his mouth. The distress did nothing but he came to the howl.

A couple weeks ago we brought one into our lap while night hunting. We heard him crunching in the snow but he busted us before we got the light on him. Darn thing came in behind us! 3 trips ago I howled in a pair that busted me and a single that wouldn't come into range, two trips ago I howled in a big male- this one

Yesterday I howled in a pair but missed one and then I howled in this old girl later in the day. I did mix in some fawn bleets with the pair though.

So the howls are doing the trick on yotes. I'd start with them at least, and then switch to distress if they don't bring anything in.
