hoss
Re: ILLINOIS residents....Someone told me its illegal [ QUOTE ] does this mean you cant even plant corn fields!?!? [/ QUOTE ] The DNR is worred about deer congragating in one spot shuch as feeders or food piles. Tring to keep the spread of CWD down. So yes you can still plant fields and food plots. Dont make sences does it? Just my take on it.
need2hunt
Re: ILLINOIS residents....Someone told me its illegal Yes it's illegal to feed deer in Illinois, it used to be that you were allowed to do it up to X days before season but that was changed about 4 years ago to the current law. [/ QUOTE ] Exactly right.Your not allowed to put feed out at all.I used to put minerals and corn out for a couple months after the season was over to help give them some nutrients through winter and into spring. It also made it nice to get good trail cam pics, but you just can't do it anymore.I wish they would only have that law in cwd counties and not the whole state. Guest ILclimber
Re: ILLINOIS residents....Someone told me its illegal I was not aware of this rule either, heck we put out corn after season is over just to watch them from the house just like some of the other guys. Those deer will be sad when we pull the corn out from under em'.

Mach1
Re: ILLINOIS residents....Someone told me its ille If I was told correctly, a household birdfeeder within 'X' feet of a human occupied dwelling is the only type of wildlife feeder that is legal now. JJL
Re: ILLINOIS residents....Someone told me its illegal It makes alot of sense to me. The amount of bacteria that's transmitted through a pile of corn from deer to deer, isn't worth the little bit of nutrition that they receive. If a person really wants to make a difference in the winter-time nutritional supply of their deer herd, then put in a food plot. Deer are browser/grazers and will get all they need from a field without the health concerns of a pile of corn. If you just want to see a bunch of deer...go to a deer farm. We've got alot of people who like to feed deer in our immediate area. I've seen groups of 40-60 deer in peoples fields eating off piles of corn and bales of hay that were put there intentionally to feed the deer. We now have CWD in our local herd. Is it because of the feeding, I don't know. But, the wildlife biologists who work for the state sure think that they're probably linked somehow. I tend to agree. 125py
Re: ILLINOIS residents....Someone told me its illegal jjl7913 I am well aware that a pile of corn is not going to give the deer herd all the nutrition they need. Some people dont own/lease land that has a place to put a food plot either. I was going to put out a pile of corn to get some pictures on my new trail camera. I dont need to go to a deer farm to see a lot of deer either, I can just go to a late season feeding field and watch more that I can keep track of. [/ QUOTE ] You are willing to risk the health of the deer herd, in order to get a few pictures???????? With all due respect, The State of Illinois got this one right. I'm not sure of the habitat in your area, but where I live in the Northern part of the state it's becoming very residential. CWD is already here and all of the Bunny-Huggers in Suburbia just love dumping out corn for the deer. I'm sure you have seen what happens to a 3 bushel pile of corn by the time it's gone. Deer, squirrel, rabbits, coon, possum, skunk, rats, mice, fox, coyote, and thousands of birds have all eaten from the pile. Most of them pissed in it and most of them crapped in it. It's now the community swimming pool without Chlorine.................unhealthy. If you have a field where their feeding, find a good trail leading to it to place your camera on. You probably won't get as many pics as you would with a pile of corn, but, the deer will be better off. Take Care JJL
125py
Re: ILLINOIS residents....Someone told me its illegal No, i said i WAS going to put out a pile of corn. Yes i agree w/the state about feeding deer. Where i live and was thinking about putting corn out, there are few people around and you can only access the area with a ATV or long walk. There has never been any CWD discovered here or any counties in the area. I would love to put my camera on one of the trails leading to the field but then I would jump deer everytime I go there, including 3 nice 135-140 class bucks that go to the field on a regular basis. (A major bedding area is along the field where most of the deer come to the field, i havent set foot in there for 10 years!!) Yes, i know the season is over and it would not run them out of the area if i did jump them but i just hate to jump deer anytime of the year out of their beds...especially nice mature bucks.
