Who thinks the NBA is overrated??

My father has always talks about how the NBA today isn't the real game of basketball. Pistol Pete, Larry Bird, Bill, Walton, Magic Johnson, Robert Parish.... and even older players than them..... these were the founding fathers of basketball. I don't watch much NBA, because of the fights, and the way its played. I know there's a lot of great players out there, but someone is just real lazy when one guy can score up to 60 some pts in one game. Where's the DEFENSE at. I was taught that DEFENSE wins games and Championships.....

There's only 1 guy I would consider watching and thats Steve Nash, I just love to watch any basketball player who is un-selfish and wants to make his team better and get a Win.

I agree with everything you said. That is why i liked to watched the Pistons a couple years ago. I was mad when Flip Saunders came in and preached offense and ran Ben Wallace out.

I like watching Chauncy Billups. He gives his all on both ends and is like Nash in the unselfish way plus they call him Mr Big Shot for a reason.

Re: Who thinks the NBA is overrated??

i think it is like just about anything else in life...as times change, the game changes...all sports are different now then they were 30-40 years ago...in 30 or 40 years, we are going to look at the way these professional sports are played and say the exact thing your father is. i remember magic johnson, larry bird, robert parish...and guys in that era...(80s) those guys could play....and they were surronded by other great players.

i don't think the game is over rated, i enjoy watching the pistons...and if there is another good matchup on, i will usually watch it. fights have been happening forever in basketball...i can't remember when it was, or who the players were (i'm sure someone here will remember) but i know it was a while ago...late 70s, early 80s maybe...when there was a fight and one guy got hit and knocked out...think he got messed up pretty bad. and i also like to watch good defensive teams (2004 pistons are a good example, they won it all then) they were holding alot of teams to i think 70 points or so every night, but people were calling the games boring and things like that. i thought it was great. smile.gif

It is still fun to watch a team get on a roll like Dallas is now.

Just hope there's another guy and team like Jordan and the Bulls of the 90s. I really enjoyed watching them.

I do like watching D-Wade play offense.

Re: Who thinks the NBA is overrated??

hockey--yuk!

I love watching the NBA playoffs. Yes there are some thugs in basketball but there are thugs in all walks of life.

During the regular season i'll watch high profile games.

However--yes you do see guys scoring 50 to 60 points but that wasn't too unusual back in Wilts day--doesn't he still hold the single game record in points?

Better question:

Who thinks the NBA should be disbanded?

I do. grin.gif

Couldn't agree more. I can't believe the NBA gets all this attention and a sport like hockey gets none. Ticks me off. mad.gif

Makes me mad too! Most NBA players belong more in a freak show than a professional sports league!!!

Re: Who thinks the NBA is overrated??

The NBA made a conscious decision during the late 80's and early 90's to focus their marketing on young urban blacks. That eventually led to what we see today - a sport dominated by gangsta's and gangsta wannabes. I think the NBA realizes they made a mistake with that strategy, and they're trying to take steps to correct it. But they're in so deep now that it will take years and years to repair the damage that's been caused. And the really sad part about it is that those unhealthy gangsta attitudes have filtered down to college, high school, and even playground levels of basketball. frown.gif
