best weedeater for the money-stihl or echo

Needing to get a new weedeater this year. Want to get something that will last, and will not kill my shoulders using it. Been really happy with stihl chainsaws, but never used one of their weedeaters. Have heard that echos are better than stihls. If they are priced similarly, which one is really better, and how much should I expect to have to fork out?

I got a Ryobi and I have never had an issue with it. It has the feature where you can change the head on it to other devices, I never do though. $100.00 at Lowes and worth it if you ask me!

Got one of those straight shaft Ryobis in the garage now Lou along with the tiller attachment. It is about 8 or 9 years old, and I rebuilt it back in 2003 at the end of the summer. All it really needs now is the primer bulb and new fuel line, but the thing kills my shoulders to use it, and the primer bulb from ryobi(mtd) to replace it back with the original part was like $30 with shipping shocked.gif.

I've been running Echos for about 6 years now. Very durable and don't use as much fuel as a Stihl. I use Stihl hedge trimmers and chain saws simply because they have more power, but I'd go with an Echo weed trimmer if I were you. As far as price, it all depends on which model and how much power you want. The commercial trimmers that I use are around $300.00, but you can buy a cheaper grade one from Lowe's I think.

Spend a couple extra dollars and get a weedeater that you can exchange attachments. I have the following attachments for mine: saw blade, rototiller, edger, and my favorite, limb saw. Instead of buying a bunch of expensive new gadgits you just switch out the attachment. It's kinda like owning a T/C Encore and switching barrels.

If I had to pick from your choices the decision is a no brainer, Stihl wink.gif

Really it is not a no brainer though. For the stihl I would like to get, it would probably actually run me a little more than the echo. I hear that the county, and contractors in the business actually prefer the echos in power pruners and weedeaters over the stihls though.

I actually use a Stihl and like it pretty well. I would talk to Unioncountyslayer.............Mark does this kind of stuff for a living and ought to know what is good and what is not.

Yep, talked with Mark a while ago and he suggested the echo. Just got done looking at some echo's online, think I have figured out which one I want.

I think they are both good......HERES AT LITTLE TIP.....my family has cut grass forever as a side job (55 lawns in all)....for your weedeater get a little heavier cord and only run with one....not two.....with one you get higher RPM and with the bigger cord you can cut alot more and never bogg down your trimmer....just a tip guys.

i would reccomend stihl, ive used a lot of them and i like them better than anything, ill tell ya what though the boss i worked for, for 7 years, and we ran john deere everything, everything was great except the weedeaters, whatever you buy i would not recommend a john deere weedeater, they had problems all the time
