Re: best weedeater for the money-stihl or echo

My buddy owns his own landscape co. and currently has both and in my opinion the Echo is the way to go ( I love Stihl saws) the Echo is a little lighter and seems to turn higher RPMs resulting in a cleaner cut with less effort.

Just my $.02

If you're gonna be wrenching around on stuff with a saw blade, tough weeds, and high torque stuff with some regularity, I'd get a Stihl I think. I won't buy anything but a Stihl chainsaw though. I carried an Echo 21CC trimmer around a college campus for the last two summers, and I appreciated the light weight of it. Get it in thick weeds or anything at my boss's place, it bogged way down, but for lawn maintenance and trimming maintained grass, it served us well. In short, IMHO, if you're on a farm or live in the country, get a Stihl. City or clean lawn, long walking, etc. get the Echo. That is, considering your two choices. You didn't ask for it, but also right there with the Stihls are Shindaiwa trimmers/brushcutters. We've had ours for...probably about 8-9 years by now, run it through the farm and heavy junk, and it's still goin' strong as ever with a carb. kit 2 years ago. If you have a good dealer nearby, check out Shindaiwas as well. Personally, I would prefer Shindaiwa to Stihl just because of how they feel and look, and they may be a tad. lighter. Price...they run around $400-450 if I'm remembering right.
