c_lou
you have been too. I didn't want to hijack the Football Withdrawl thread, but something MCH said about watching live sports got me thinking. So what is the best Live Sporting Event you have seen. For me, the 1996 Olympics Brazil vs. Nigeria in mens soccer. I was visiting my sister and future BIL in Florida. The Olympics were holding pre-lim soccer matches around the nation. This was at the Orange Bowl in Miami. The final was 1-0 Brazil on a tremendous goal by Ronaldo. Not exciting you say, perhaps, but the atmosphere in the stands was out of this world. Singing & dancing by all the fans. The best sporting expierence I have ever had.
muggs
Re: Best Live Sporting Event... Sounds like a cool experience. Mine would have to be a Browns playoff game in the old Municipal Staduim. They beat the young Drew Bledsoe led Patriots in a come back win. It was around ten degrees with the wind chill. I was probably about 10 years old, and my Mom shelled out the $$ for the tickets because she knew I was a huge Browns fan. We sat there, bundled up in blankets and drop clothes to block the blistering wind coming off of Lake Erie. One of my favorite memories, and it was what Browns football used to be all about...the glory days. Oh yeah, there were a few Patriot fans about ten rows in front of us. I hit them with about a dozen peanuts, and Mom even got into the action. It was classic.
buckbuster11
Re: Best Live Sporting Event... I've got two. One was a late season Steelers game against the Jets in 2004. It was the coldest game in Heinz Field history at the time and I think it still is. It was somewhere around 5 degrees at kickoff. The atmosphere for the game was awesome. The other one was a Pirates game I was at this past summer. They were playing the Giants on a Saturday night. For those of you who don't know, Barry Bonds is public enemy #1 in Pittsburgh so the fans were out in full force. The stadium was packed, which it never is, and the whole atmosphere was a lot different from most Pirate games (mostly due to Bonds' presence). Plus, it ended up being a terrific game to watch. Toronto Maple leafs 75th anniversary game in 2002, they brought out the top 25 players ever to play for the leafs out onto the ice! Got a chance to see alot of my idols from my youth and some legends of the game! I sat at ice level 3 rows up!
Guest Finn
Re: Best Live Sporting Event... A Packer game at Lambeau was my favorite one....hard to beat watching a game on the "frozen tundra" I would really like to go see a Ryder Cup match or the Masters some time. Guest Andrea
Re: Best Live Sporting Event... 1. Our high school's football state game in Tallahassee. 2. The Jags/Ravens game last year. 3. Anytime I can go see FSU or FL play is a good time. 4. I love watching the Pensacola Ice Pilots play, though they aren't very good. I like hockey. Just don't keep up with it on a pro-level.
Guest waynemclain
Re: Best Live Sporting Event... uhhh lets see......ive seen a couple good ones.. 1. 1992 Indy 500 Closest finish in history Al Unser Jr. over Scott Goodyear. 2. 1995 Indy 500 Jacques Villenueve passes the pace car when leading putting him 2 laps down....eventually winning the race being the only indy 505 winner. 3. 2005 Indy 500 Danica Patrick the rookie stays out in front all day and hangs in to finish 4th 4. 2005 USGP formula one....20 cars were suppose to take the start and only 6 did...Shumacher wins...known as the fiasco at indy

AdvantageTimberLou
Re: Best Live Sporting Event... Being to any NASCAR race is awesome to witness especially when they get the green flag. I wish I could have seen Dale Sr's Daytona 500 win, that would have been awesome! This year it would have to be seeing the Tigers beat up on the Red Sox at Comerica Park. Who would have thought my team would have made it to the World Series at that point!
deerslayer06
Re: Best Live Sporting Event... Here are my top two off the top of my head... 1. Last Year's Indy 500, where Sam Hornish Jr. won by a very small margain and finally won the race he has been dreaming about since he was young (plus experencing the 500 in person is just an experience in itself) 2. NBA Playoffs at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indy...Pacers Vs. Pistons. Need I say more? One of the greatest rivalries in basketball. Also saw Reggie Millers last game in a Pacer uniform. I will never forget that.
Tominator
Re: Best Live Sporting Event... Hmmmm, tough one. Watching Gretzky's last game at The Joe. Sitting in the bleachers in Old Municipal, watching a dude light a Browns pennant on fire, and then watching a dude 3 rows in front of me reach into his cooler, pull out a chunk of ice, whip it across the access tunnel into the Stillers crowd, hitting the pennant burner in the head and summarily watching the Stillers fan bleed and be tossed out of the stadium, while the ice chucker was an instant hero in the bleachers, then looking at the aisle as a yellow river flowed because two guys couldn't make it to the restroom in time. It was surreal. Ten feet away, watching, listening and smelling Alex Zanardi going through the gears at 180mph on the straightaway at Belle Isle. Sitting in the bleachers at Municipal, listening to Nolan Ryan grunt and pop a glove from over 500 ft away. Watching Elyria Catholic win State championship games in 1983 and 84. Standing within arms reach of guys like Palmer, Nicklaus, Player, Watson, Leonard, Love III, et al. I'm sure there's more, but those come to mind. dogdoc
Re: Best Live Sporting Event... The most exciting so far was when OU came into Iba Arena ranked #1 in the country in BB and we (OSU) de-throaned them. However--I am going to the Oscar DeLahoya/Mayweather (I think that's the name) fight in May. I have a feeling this might be the best one. Michiganbowhunter_SQ2
Re: Best Live Sporting Event... mine is a tie...either the 2 michigan games i went to this past season, or the Detroit Lions game i went to about 6 years ago. yeah, i know you are thinkin "the lions??" but i was working for a security company at the time. and they needed people to go down and work the game against the packers at the silverdome, so i went, figuring i would be able to sneek a peek at the game every now and then, and i figured i would be stuck in some crappy area. well i got there, and they took me and another guy down, and they put him at the field level, behind the benches...and i thought great, he gets this great spot and i am going to get stuck somewhere else...well it turns out...they took me, and stuck me right smack dab in the tunnel where everything goes on...was 2 feet away from the packers and the lions, got a free meal to, they had a lunch buffet set up for the reporters back there in the press room. my job was to make sure no one got in the players way during halftime and after the game...check press passes after the game, got a tour of the locker room when everything calmed down after them game. and i got to watch most of the game from the back of the end zone all that, and i got paid for about 10 hours of work!!
