ohiobuckhunter
hey guys i just found this sight i used to go to versus but it's no longer working so i was trying to find another place to ask some shed huters preferably from ohio that could give me some pointers on shed hunting like when to start and where to look. i've been an avid hunter for many years but i was looking for a way to spend a little more time in the woods so i was wanting to try shed hunting but i have never done it so i could really use some advice so i don't get aggitated and quit i'm looking forward to your input thanks
Tominator
Re: when is a good time to start shed hunting in ohio Personally, I'd wait until about March, that's when we go. Tips: walk a lot. Walk all over, walk until you want to drop. Seriously, cover a lot of ground where you see deer yarded up in January and February. Get out and look for tracks in the snow to see where they're hanging out this time of year. Check bedding areas, staging areas, and trails. I've had a fair amount of success on fencelines too. Good luck. I consider myself lucky if I find one or two per year. I only found one last year and it was when I was helping a buddy pull a stand and just happened on to it. buckee
Re: when is a good time to start shed hunting in ohio Welcome to the Realtree forums I've heard a few shed hunters around the country say that the end of February (Feb 25 or so) is the ideal time to look for sheds. Guest ohiostBUCKeyes
Re: when is a good time to start shed hunting in ohio i normally wait until early march b4 i start going out, walk along heavily used trails, creek bottoms, ridgetops, bedding areas basically take a canteen or bottle of water and cover as much ground as possible. Use logic and it will cut down the walking, if a deer spends most of his time in the bedding area then chances are likely you would find the sheds in or on trails adjacent to them. Outdoor_Guy
Re: when is a good time to start shed hunting in ohio Use your deer hunting knowledge to follow the routes deer use, there feeding areas, and bedding areas. It helps to be lucky also.
