OUTDOORLIFE3
Hey guys, I have just started doing my own taxidermy and have mounted a few ducks...but I deciede to try to mount a goose and i skinned out the body and neck, but when i started to cut around the beak, I noticed the feathers started coming off in little chunks and almost the entire right side came off. Is that common with geese and if so is there anyway to prevent that so i can mount one?
timberlandtaxi
Re: Goose mounting... Not normal. Your feathers are slipping as a result of bacteria growth. Use fresh specimens that have been frozen soon after harvest if possible. Be gentle when handling, and try not to handle it too much or the heat from your hands will accelerate the possibility of slippage. I must admit though, it is usually not as big of a problem w/ birds as it is w/ mammals.
RTF
Re: Goose mounting... Looks like you might be doing some glueing of feathers when all said and done. Thats a shame. [ QUOTE ] I must admit though, it is usually not as big of a problem w/ birds as it is w/ mammals. [/ QUOTE ] This is very true.
