? aboot radio signals/frequencies

Ok, last night I was on myy way home from Indianapolis and wanted to find something new to listen to on the radio (don't have Sirrius yet). Anywho, I was rolling through Louisville and scanning the A.M. dial, I couldn't pick up but one station (nothing against George Norrey and Art Bell, but I can only take so much of George's touchy-feely attitude). Fast forward to just north of Nashville. I find this talk show called "Midnight trucking" (great show if you like listening to people complain aboot log books and diesel prices, but I digress). Finally I get a traffic and weather report. The station is broadcasting from Detroit. A few miles later, it the signal is gone. Meanwhile, I find the same show on another station, this one is from Dallas, Texas. Now, I'm in downtown Nashville, right next to Titans' stadium. I can pick up stations from Detroit and Dallas, but nothing from Nashville. Just east of Nashville, I pick up a station from Cinncinatti, but still nothing from Nashville. Why can I pick up that station in Nashville (300 miles away) but not Louisville (100 miles away, [if that much])?

Why can I pick up stations from 500 miles away, but not one when I'm within plain sight of the building from which it originates? Anybody?

Re: ? aboot radio signals/frequencies

One of those mysteries of life my man.

You'll better get an answer to why does it rain....

I do know that cloud cover can bounce signals further away from there source then clear skies can.

As for why Nashville has no AM signal?

Dunno...

But to further that question.

Why is it you can get signals from far away in some spots then nothing 2 miles down the road. It really sucks when your listening to the World Series on your drive home... LOL

Mountainous areas I could understand, but sometimes it happen in open flat areas..

Just my 2 cents... LOL
