woodshed
Has anybody joined this outfit, "North American Hunting Club"? I'm just wondering if this is another scam in the mail. They send you a deal in the mail trying to get you to join. They promise some free gifts. For $1/month you get a mangazine and they supposedly send you hunting equiptment. You can keep it after you try it and fill out a survey with an opinion of it. Of course in the ad it boasts big equiptment like guns, ammo, stands, clothing. It seems a scam to me. How can they give out guns? What if I'm a nut job??? (after all my wife says I am) I've seen these in other mailings for fishing gear and tools. They get your imfo when you purchase stuff in stores and get magazine subs. Then your a target in that area. I'd consider it if the magazine is worth it and I get an occasional free gadget. I would think they are usually small and cheesy though. Any experiences with this out there???? thanks
ohiobuckhunter
Re: North American Hunting Club It's a legit company i've been a member for a few years now you get a subscribtion to their magazine and they send you stuff every once in a while the only things i've received have been a winchester multi knife and a heated cushion seat but hey it's still cool to get something compared to just a magazine
woodshed
Re: North American Hunting Club it's only 12/year,,, so the magazine if it's ok is worth that. The knife is also worth more than that.
Guest Finn
Re: North American Hunting Club I've been a life member since 1999. I like the magazine and have had a chance to field test 4 or 5 things. Most are only worth a couple $$, but did get a camo Madd Dog camo suit that was valued over a $100. They send money requests, but I just throw that stuff in the trash. I also had them send me a book and video then request payment. I notified them I appreciated the gift as I didn't request them, I certainly wasn't paying for it. Haven't rec'd that kind of thing since. Overall, I like it...and the Life Member leather jacket is pretty good.

Squirrelhunter91
Re: North American Hunting Club Dude.. take my advice.. stay away from them. I'll ask my dad, ( ADjam5 ) to come on here and explain why to stay away from them. They are all about the money. They are part of a big company that has no interest in its members and their opinions. A real CLUB has elected officials. When did the members ever vote on who runs the "club"? [/ QUOTE ] Yes, they are a large organization and it is not like you are joining a hunting club to meet people. It is mainly a magazine and it has a web site. I have received some good things from them and do know a couple of people that received Muzzleloaders to test and got to keep them afterwards. Few and far in between on the big items though. I like some of the offers they send in the mail. I think they make most of there money marketing items. I have bought the jacket, a wooden chest with drawers, a backpack, safety harness, and some other small things. Have been completely happy with everything i have bought. You only save only a couple of dollars by buying from them, but you get a cool logo on all the items you buy. I guess it all matters what you are looking for. I personally think for the money it ain't a bad deal. If they send you books or movies just send it back in the pre-posted package and be sure to call them and tell them to take you off the list. It's what I did and didn't have a problem there after. Been a life member since 2001 and think it has been worth it.
TexasDeerHunter
Re: North American Hunting Club I have no personal experience with them, but a while back there was a similar post on here and most of the feedback about them was negative. I heard enough bad press that it made me never want to join. So Squirrelhunter might be right.
Guest realtrhunter
Re: North American Hunting Club I was a member of theirs and hated the club. It took them forever to get stuff to me and when they did it was the wrong things. They said they were out of what I ordered so they replaced it with something of similar value. When I got a Mad Dog rain suit to test out, they sent me a bill for it 3 months later. I would stay away from them. I'll stay with DU, NWTF and the NRA. Guest Finn
Re: North American Hunting Club Well, maybe I'm just lucky. I haven't had any problems in probably the last 5 years with them. On top of that, I met a guy on their forums who sold me 4 Green Bay Packer tickets for face value. That alone, paid for my life membership. [/ QUOTE ] Sounds like you got ripped off to me! Now,if they were Vikes tickets...... Actually I was a memeber for 1 year a few years back. They tried sending me a few things like videos, but as I read the fine print it said after a certain period I would be billed for it,so I made sure to not even open them and send them back. They also wanted to renew my subscription after I was only two or three months into it,which kinda turned me off so I never renewed. buckbuster11
Re: North American Hunting Club I was a member once and hated it. I don't think I even last a year before I cancelled the membership. Any organization that sends stuff to me that I did not ask for, and then requires me to pay for it unless I send it back is low class in my opinion.....and thats exactly what is going to happen if you join. That tells me they are all about the money and not the members. That organization is just to much hassle for me.
OJR
Re: North American Hunting Club I used to belong and quit! They were constantly asking for money! They would send books and video's and then if you didn't return them by a certain date, you were billed and threatened with collection! I haven't missed it one bit! wtnhunt
Re: North American Hunting Club Used to get stuff from them in the mail all the time. Never joined was a bit skeptical. woodshed
Re: North American Hunting Club thanks everybody. I'm waaayyy to lazy to deal with sending things back I never ordered. I'd sit on it too long and then have collections after me, forclosure on my house, with inevitable bankrupcy to follow. Too much stress for a stress free guy. thanks. Adjam5
Re: North American Hunting Club OK...I am a Life Member of the NAHC, since 1992 when Peter Burke owned the actual club. Mr Burke was a lifelong hunter who hunted with Fred Bear and started the club as a place for like minded enthusiasts. Mr.Burke passed on, the club was sold and on came corporate greed. The 2nd owner was Cendant Corp. They were not bad at all.Cendant in 1999 sold it to Doughty Hansen LLC, Europes largest private equity fund managers. What it became after that was a unstoppable solicitation machine. They would send items to buy without asking, the burden of mailing the return was on you. But thats not too bad. What drove me over the edge was the ads they took and posted on their BB. Man, there were "Save the seals"ad pop ups that started all over their site. I saw it with my own 2 eyes. They blamed it on a googlebot that placed automatic advertising based on bot word searches. Members who objected, their posting privilidges were revoked. Steps should have been taken to make sure no anti hunting ads make it to a hunting bulletin board. Members spoke on their BB and objected to the amount of smoking and sexual stimulant ads in the magazine. They were quieted also. The BB became a managerie of advertisements. Not like here. The format changed on the BB to fit these ads and some said the print was too small to read and had problems reading the board. They were silenced. Some members complained about everything the club has made with its name on it, is from China. And how the Chinese must laugh everytime they make something with the word "America" on it. They were silenced. Referring members to the TOS(terms of service). Their abiliity to do what they want. Anything they considered negitive about what DUES PAYING members had to say, gave them the right to silence those so called critics. There are no moderators like on here. Just a webmaster. I wrote some private letters to the "club" and received the run a around. Thats when I decided it was time to stop frequenting their board and to cut ties as much as I could. I could not get a refund for my life membership, but I did not renew any of the 3 gift memberships I gave to jr hunters that I know. They are extremely profit oriented company now whose sole interest is get people to pay to be on their marketing list. They do have some give aways. Thats about the ONLY good thing I found with them. They had manufacturers send out products to field test and you'd get to keep them after the test is done. Sometimes they were muzzeloaders, boots, scopes, knives, sometimes a spool of orange thread for wind direction detection. That stuff was OK. The field test thing. Just keep in mind that the North American Hunting Club is NOT a Club. You pay to be on a mailing list and part of their marketing target audience. You do not get to elect anyone or chose anything about the "Club" In a nutshell, they became something I didn't like. So I stopped going on their board and asked to be taken off of all their mailing lists. They have a garden club, handy man club ect...They bombard you with solicitations in the mail and electronically. They also sell your names and address' with other companies who market for them. I had had many negitive experiences with them and I am done with them as far as I'm concerned. Thats my experience with the NAHC BTW anyone want to buy a NAHC LIFE member leather jacket....? Brand new!

Adjam5
Re: North American Hunting Club Bottom line...they market items to hunters for companies, taking a peice for themselves and the membership fee you pay is to be on that marketing list. They also sell your info to OTHER companies to market other items too. If you belong to the NAHC, most likely you have gotten mailings about a gardening club, handyman club ect. All sub companies of the NAHC that are looking to market items to you/us. Look at the magazine they put out. Few articles and PLENTY of ads. It is a racket and they have found a niche. It is NO club at all. A for profit organization that masquarades(sp?) as a club. If it was a club, you'd have the opportunity to pick officers and leaders of that club. This club is owned by a European consortium, whose sole motivation is PROFIT. Why else take a "save the seals" by Peta ad and have it run on your Bulletin board as a pop up? Money 1st...hunters rights 2nd. Thats the NAHC.
