Guest shortmag
I am considering getting a muzzleloader and trying my hand at this type of hunting. I saw an article in a magazine for these muzzleloaders that was pretty incredible so I checked it out on their website. They claim over 3000 fps with a 45 cal and accurate out past 300 yds. I believe their trajectory was something like -8 @ 300yds with a muzzle energy @ 2000flbs. I have never heard of anyone with one, I have not seen any of the "professional" guys on tv with one, and can't find any objective opinions about them. Do any of you guys know anything about them? The website is badbullmuzzleloaders.com

Guest shortmag
Re: Bad Bull Muzzleloaders That is what I was talking about...is it worth it. I mean, I don't mind spending the money on a product that I know works that well and is that good, but I don't have any first hand info on the guns...and can't seem to find anyone else with any first hand info either. I'm just not brave enough to take their word for it..ya know?
Ohiobucks
Re: Bad Bull Muzzleloaders Ohio's ML season is 4 days long. Granted, I could use one for shotgun season, which is 1 week. $3,200 on a gun to use less than 2 weeks a year? Nope, not for me...
Hoosierbuck
Re: Bad Bull Muzzleloaders Another thing is that with those velocities, you are going to need a bonded bullet...I have been shooting a Knight .45 for a few years, and can't find a bullet that will hold up at shorter range with just 150 gr. worth of pyro pellets. I highly recommend Knight and T/C. Don't have any first-hand knowledge of Bad Bull, but they look cool, and for that $ they best be sooooo good. Big picture, you could get plenty of killer muzzles for a few grand less, but it isn't about what you need, it's about what you want. How bad do you want it? AJ
Re: Bad Bull Muzzleloaders I have not heard of anyone actually being able to accomplish BBM's claims. You can get realistic performance from the Savage ML. You can get bullet speed pretty much up to the point where it's not comfortable to shoot. Getting a 200 gr bullet to 3000 fps is achievable in the Savage. I am working on a load to get 2600 fps from a 290 gr Barnes. Hoosierbuck, I have not had a problem with any ML bullets shooting 150 gr of Pyrodex. In fact, my choice is a PR QT40 or Dead Center which is all lead bullet. I have used it on deer at distances under 5 yards out to about 200 yards and it did the job just fine. I see no need for a copper jacketed bullet when shooting under 2200 fps. Hoosierbuck
Re: Bad Bull Muzzleloaders Well, all I can say is that Powerbelts, which are unbelievably accurate in my rifle, freaking exploded on 20 yard shots this fall. No exit wound and little bits of lead and copper everywhere inside the beasts. Killed 'em deader than dead, but no blood trail, no exit wound... Lackluster performance by some lighter for caliber bulets from T/C...can't recall the name right off the top, also very accurate, though. LETMGROW
Re: Bad Bull Muzzleloaders If it killed them dead why do you need a blood trail?
Hoosierbuck
Re: Bad Bull Muzzleloaders Because those silly deer don't always know they are dead right off the bat, and they ran a ways through the thickest stuff in the neighborhood. LETMGROW
Re: Bad Bull Muzzleloaders OK, I understand now. It killed them almost dead.
AJ
Re: Bad Bull Muzzleloaders LOL! Yep, I hate it when that happens. I shot the XTP bullets and had a similar problem. They shot great accuracy wise but the blood trails sucked. when a lung shot deer runs 60 yards in thick cover, it can be hard to locate. Out west, you cna see for days so its not that big of a deal. Hoosierbuck
Re: Bad Bull Muzzleloaders AJ- Now that you mention it, I think it was XTP's that did that to me. LETMGROW- Ummm, ok. HB

HB [/ QUOTE ] Sorry, I wasn't picking on you! I have been using the Win. Partition Gold 260 gr. for a while and am really pleased with the performance. I have had to follow a couple blood trails myself. If anyone tells you they don't have to they are full of something other than cornflakes. These deer are tough animals. You are right, they are dead standing and don't know it yet. Then they take off and make us work to find them. Frankly I don't know of a gun, powder or bullet combo which would guarantee instant knock down kills, short of a cartridge which would completly destroy the animal! The best any of us can do is find a combination which shoots well and gives us the best chance possible at a clean kill shot. To get back to the original post, I can see no reason to spend $ 3200 on a MZ. for a special limited season! Under $ 500 will buy you all the gun you will ever need. If you are filthy rich, OK, then go for it. Otherwise save the $$$ for your kids college fund. Lynn
