Re: SCOPE!

[ QUOTE ]

What "standard" tool/weapon would you choose if you were hunting cape buff. or elephant? wink.gif

[/ QUOTE ]

How about the 376 Steyr, the 375 JDJ or the 375 Ruger? All have standard length cases or shorter without the "magical belt" and have either been successfully used on dangerous game or match the performance of the 375 H&H. Standard cartridges are not necessarily small, but they are void of the "magnum" label. grin.gifcool.gifooo.gif

How about the .........375 Ruger?

[/ QUOTE ]

Tut, tut, there oh sipper from the cup of marshmallowy ho-hum. The .375 Ruger is acceptable by our OTPG charter for admissions.

OTPG admissions rule #2: " You must own and shoot a centerfire, magnum rifle cartridge or cenerfire pistol cartridge .429" or larger. (some exceptions without formal "magnum" designation will be considered i.e. Rigby, Nitro Express, etc) "

The 375 Ruger is an "etc." tongue.gif

I just realized that AJ is a member of the OTPG, and yet he is the poster boy for SCOPE. What's going on here? He's like a double agent or something.

[/ QUOTE ]

Check the OTPG membership list posted most recently. Fear not for a cocoa drinker in our esteemed midst. Our former Member #6 has been officially lynched. frown.gif

Re: SCOPE!

AT this point in time I'd like to take a brief minute to offer up a few thoughts on Member#6.............

He was a good member. Well spoken and knowledgeable. His love for the shooting sports and the outdoors was admired by many. It was a pleasure to have him in our midst, albiet for only a short time. That's how it seems to go with the good ones sometimes. You're at the top of your craft, then, without warning you fall victim to the Devils Drink.......Cocoa. He's in a quieter place now. Back on the porch with his cocoa resting peacefully in his cotton PJ's with the little bunnies on the feet.

God only made so many men who are capable of sustaining the fortitude necessary to get off the porch. Member #6 was not one of those men. God Bless him and his bunny PJ's. May the report of loud guns never again touch his ears ........

Amen...............

Re: SCOPE!

I'm too poor to afford a magnum. Sign me up also. My model 700 .270 does it dead enough for my liking. Besides I've always been fond of cocoa after a long hunt "Off the Porch" and into the bush... grin.gif

I hunt with my bow more than anything else. It isn't available in a magnum of course, but it was the 2nd fastest 2003 bow on the market I believe.

My 20GA is a MAGNUM, can I still be allowed in SCOPE AJ?

Re: SCOPE!

for me i now the biggest caliber i have ever owned, it is my 35 whelen. not a magnum andf i never thought i would need one to hunt any of north americas animals. i feel now i have the total scope and scale of the calibers i need for anything in the usa and that includes alaska. for whatever reason i have always thought the 35 caliber is an outstanding caliber and not have to go to a magnum caliber rifle or pistol. my old 1911 is enough pistol for me and i love the 1911's over any other pistol oout there. call me old fashioned lol

i don't believe in overkill and i shoot a 243 which i built with my friend who is an excellent rifle builder, he did most all the work except for the matching the barrel with the mauser action

i don't care what people shoot but i saw a video where these guys were shooting 50 bmg's at deerover 850 yards. that is not what i call hunting. it is also to me not in the way of the hunter. but with the laws the way they are it is legal so let them at it. i pray i never run into one of them when i am hunting in oklahoma.

just my few thoughts. i think once i get the 35 whelen set up the way i want it i will enjoy it way too much lol. it will be my pig gun and then i will use it on the likes of elk and moose and bears in the grizzly kind. once i get all my reloading dies and such for it i will find the best load for me and set it up for my time as they say

scope also means using common sense and sometimes people don't use it when it comes to hunting and they are careless. if i fit the bill sign me up aj i don't normally sign up for stuff but if your in charge i think i can trust you man

god bless us all and may our shots be straight and true

Re: SCOPE!

You are among the fortunate ones. You can be in if you are out and in if you are in.

Check with AJ. You might be # 3!!!!

The OTPG [ On The Porch Gang ] is far superior. We shoot smaller guns but are far better marksmen. We don't have to have hand cannons to make up for our poor skills and ability!
