ilhnter
I'm looking at getting my fiance a shotgun. The problem is that I can't find one that fits her. The guns I have are to big and long. What kind of shotguns do you ladies shoot? Do I need to look into youth models? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
M00N
Re: Shotgun ? for the ladies For the small stature shooter or even youths I'd recommend going with a 20-Gauge shotgun. I’d either look at youth models of just for models with shorter stocks and/or barrels on them. I find it to be a very versatile gauge to shoot through a shotgun, which with different setups can be used to hunt multiple types of game animals with ethically. A 20-Gauge slug gun can effectively kill deer and coyote with it with only a little less shot distance than the 12-Gauges. 20-Gauge upland gun works great for upland hunting as the low recoil on it won’t kill your shoulder to shoot multiple times. 20-Gauge turkey gun does great for turkey hunting and comes very close in patterns to the 12-Gauges when setup correctly (good choke and good shells) at 40 and even 50 yards. It also holds its ground well with waterfowl hunting, too. To me it’s a great all around load for hunters that want a bit less recoil than a 12-Gauge and don’t want to loose too much killing power as a result. I personally own two shotguns. One is a Remington Model 870 Wingmaster in .410 Bore 2 3/4” shot that I use for squirrels and bunnies and occasional the oddball upland bird. The other is a Remington Model 870 SPS-T in 20-Gauge 3” shot that I use for turkey hunting. If I could afford it I’d also have a Remington Premiere Upland in 20-Gauge 3” shot for serious upland hunting and a Remington Model 870 Express Slug in 20-Gauge 3” shot for shotgun deer and coyote hunting on the military base. TexasDeerHunter
Re: Shotgun ? for the ladies Look into the Remington 870 youth models in 20ga. Or if money is no object , try a custom fitted over/under by Beretta in 20 or 28 ga.

wtnhunt
Re: Shotgun ? for the ladies Considered the remington model 870 youth in the 20 gauge for the wife, but never did buy the gun. Might still eventually, seems she might be getting interested in the turkeys.
unioncountyslayer
Re: Shotgun ? for the ladies My wife shoots a 16 ga., but ammo is becoming more and more scarce, so I'd probably go with a 20 ga. as well. Check out the Browning Micro in 20 ga., very nice shotgun that won't break the bank! http://www.browning.com/products/catalog...amp;type_id=
Turkeygirl
Re: Shotgun ? for the ladies I have a regular 20 ga. Mossberg 500, but a girl I knew got a Mossberg 500 youth model and it is nice! Mine is a bit big for me but it does the job.

[/ QUOTE ] You could have the stock cut down by a competent gunsmith and fitted with a good recoil pad. The cost wouldn't be all that much but the comfort might be well worth the investment. I have a gunsmith in the area who can do this. Lynn
ilhnter
Re: Shotgun ? for the ladies She uses a 30/30 lever action for deer hunting, but she overheard my buddies and I talking about our duck hunts and she saw the ducks that we brought home each time. She's now very interested and wants to go next year, so I'm just trying to find a good shotgun that would fit her and be able to bring the ducks down. Guest TnLadyhunter
Re: Shotgun ? for the ladies Well HONESTLY I think it depends alot on what you want her to do with it. I have a 1187 12 guage three inch I turkey hunt with. Now you can not by them in youth but you can buy 13 inch length of pull stock for one. I am a smaller person but that doesn't hender me wanting to reach out there and spank a turkey, goose, or duck. Now I have a Women In the Outdoors edition 20 guage that I sport clay, rabbit, squirrel etc. It is a 13 inch length of pull also. Make sure whatever you get her is comfortable! I have shot a full size 12 guage that felt like it kicked like a horse mostly because it was longer and I couldn't pull it into by shoulder tight. Guest TnLadyhunter
Re: Shotgun ? for the ladies I am a Remington fan to they seem to have less recoil! I have shot a 870 3in 12 guage and I am now shooting a 3inch 1187 on turkeys. I love my 20 guage 1100 for light load animals.
