maddhunter
I have always used spinning reels for everything and have started buying baitcasters for my son and I. I know I have my favorites for the spinning reels so I'm sure there are some lines that work better on baitcasters. What is the best line any of you use for these reels ??? Gator
Re: BEST LINE FOR BAITCASTING ???????? Dwin, what do you plan on fishing for, and what type of fishing? Spider Wire mono is a good line, I use it on my spinning reels. In the past, I have ALWAYS used STREN with really good success. The original Spider Wire I WOULD NOT recommend if you will be doing alot of casting, but it is an EXCELLENT trolling line.
hoytman26
Re: BEST LINE FOR BAITCASTING ???????? I use berkely XL. I use 12#. I love berkely line, ever since they started making XL. xtra limp for castability.
DU_man_84
Re: BEST LINE FOR BAITCASTING ???????? all my baitcasters i use for fishing bass, i have setups for jigs, texas rigs and all that fishing heavy cover, and i use my baitcasters for spinnerbaits and top waiters, but all of my baitcasters, are spooled with moss green Power Pro #20 equivalent to 6lb, test, it gives you such smooth casting, no twisting, great sensitivity great knot strength and also has no memory which makes for smooth casting and straight tight lines for jigin, also and power pro line can take alot of abuse before having to be changed, but if you were to go with mono, i would go with stren original for your baitcasters, what i use to use before power pro hit the market, but power pro hands down for me, also i forgot to add if you do buy power pro when your spooling the line your gonna need about 10 yds or so of 20# mono to start on the reel and then tie your power pro to the mono with a nail knot and then spool the reel, this will prevent from slipping, cause if you put the power pro directly on the spool it will slip
maddhunter
Re: BEST LINE FOR BAITCASTING ???????? Thanks guys!!!! We will be using them for black bass mostly. We use power worms and crank baits alot and jigs too.
Texan_Til_I_Die
Re: BEST LINE FOR BAITCASTING ???????? If you're serious about bass fishing and want the very best, try Seaguar Carbon Pro or Seaguar Invizx fluorocarbon. Very expensive, but nothing else even comes close to matching its performance. [/ QUOTE ] Mono is what I use on my baitcasters. But you should not use a thin mono. I found out the 12, 14, & 17 pound test works best because it does not sink into the spool. I have less backlashes and knots. I use Stren lines. I dont use the power lines.

maddhunter
Re: BEST LINE FOR BAITCASTING ???????? Well I ended up using some Spiderwire Mono that I had, 12 pound. Seems to be working out alright. Gonna take a while for me to get used to but the boy sure likes it. He throse it better than I do
Jeramie
Re: BEST LINE FOR BAITCASTING ???????? Spiderwire is pretty good stuff. Typically I put Stren Ultra Limp on my bait casters and open face. Its pretty limp when you get it and doesnt twist nearly as bad as most new line! Leo
Re: BEST LINE FOR BAITCASTING ???????? For average bassing lures and rods. 14lb Trilene xt is a very forgiving line for someone new to baitcasting. Superbraids like Powerpro and Fireline are great lines but take more proficiency with your gear to master. Also superbraids WILL NOT hold a clinch or uniknot worth a darn. Your best first knot to learning tying anything on a superbraid is a Palomar knot. Also clippers will be destroyed by superbraids very quickly. So I advise putting some mini-fishing scissors in the tackle box to anyone going the superbraid route.
VABuckSlayer
Re: BEST LINE FOR BAITCASTING ???????? I use several different lines for different applications. I've been using P-Line Fluoroclear for just about anything. For topwater I'll use Berkeley Big Game. I also use XPS Fluorocarbon for jigs and t-rigged plastics. I used to use Stren Fluorocarbon but they quit making it. That was my favorite. Fireline has worked for me in the past (mostly in stained water) too. I've tried Power Pro some but not much. I plan to use it some more this season. Eric
