For those of you who live on the borderline ice forming States like northern Indy, Illinois, Ohio etc and like to ice fish... this is an article you should read.

I know they say 2" is enough to fish on, but I personally wait for 6". This article is about two guys who were out on 2-3.5" of new ice.

btw- there's two other fisherman who are currently missing. frown.gif

Thank god the men survived. I dont understand why people chance it. Im with you one them 6" and even then I remain very cautious.

That reminds me of a story that happened to my dad. He was spearing on a lake and a truck drove by no big deal. then about 5 minutes later my mom pulled up to my dads shack to drop luch to my dad and his friend. Little did they know the truck that just drove by went through the ice 200yrds away. My mom luckly drove up saw this and yelled to my dad. To cut down the story a father (who ignored weak ice signs) went through with his two daughters. My dad jumped in while his friend held a rope tied to my dads belt and they pulled all three of them out.

Just too bad people risk it for a few fish.

Re: the dangers of ice fishing....

glad the guys were ok, yes ice fishing can be a very dangerous sport, especially if you dont know what your doing, and even if you know what your doing, anything can happening, nothings ever safe when it comes to sitting on ice, and yes i love 6 inches of ice, but i do venture out on 4 but yes i am very cautious
