Ready to cuss

As I was leaving the house today to go to the grocery store, I happened to look to my left down the dirt road before I made the right hand turn. There, about 75 yards down the road was a deer. Without a head. mad.gif

And about 30 yards beyond that were 2 carcasses and gut piles.

The deer without the head was fully intact otherwise, with no visible sign of injury. They had cut the head off right at the bend of the neck. mad.gif My husband figures maybe somebody hit it with a car and salvaged the horns. But I still figured it was a complete waste. People like that reeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaallly tick me off.

And here's the really bad part............the game warden cannot/will not do anything about it. "The folks have to be caught red-handed" was the response I got. mad.giffrown.gifmad.gif

Yeah they tick me off too Andrea. Unfortunately if it is anything there like it is here, we have one warden covering a county, and he is extremely busy during deer season. They pawn off a lot of issues they could handle if they had the manpower on the sheriffs dept.

It's not a manpower thing here. The game warden lives not even a mile from us and all this "carcass dumping".

That is a shame Andrea. Is it just a bad warden that is too lazy or what?

[/ QUOTE ]

I have no idea. Seems lazy to me. Cause I hear he'd write his own mother a ticket if he had to.

Do you have a tip line? Might call in and demand an investigation anonymously. Maybe report him if he is not doing his job.

Here I was pretty disgusted with the trespassing issues we had. They told me I would be better off getting the sheriffs dept involved as the judge here most often with the twra cases will throw out trespassing cases where they are not 100 percent by the book, which really is screwed up because they also have a law here that says a hunter has to have written permission from the landowner on them at all times when on private property or they can be fined. Guess the laws here are kind of screwy with loopholes, that coupled with lack of manpower makes for easy poaching around here crazy.gifmad.gifmad.gif

Re: Ready to cuss

Although it was a waste of a deer, what's the big deal about cutting the antlers off if you hit it with a car? I can understand if the deer was shot and then only the head was taken, but with a car, what's the big deal if it's legal? I know plenty of people that drive around with a bow saw and cut the skull caps off roadkill bucks. But like I said, if the deer wasn't shot, then what's the big deal about taking the antlers?

Re: Ready to cuss

Is there any houses nearby of people he could interview?? Other than having a witness, unfortunately, it would be tough to solve something like this and although he may not be busy with other stuff, there is such a minor chance of finding who did it without a tip, or a lead, it would be tough to prove, then successfully prosecute. Sounds horrible, but that stuff goes on every day. Sometimes nothing gets done because of that. Think about it this way...if you were going to try and find the person responsible yourself...where would you start...who would you talk to?? And remember, you may have limited resources available to you like most Game Wardens do. I do agree however this this is a total waste...just trying to play the devils advocate and explain as to why "possibly", he said there was nothing he could do. Unless it continually happens in one spot, and it is random...it would even be tough "staking out" an area. frown.gif

Joe, the big deal is that this goes on ALL THE TIME on my road. There's quite a stretch of dirt road that doesn't have anyone living on it. So these jerks think it's fine to come dump their gutpiles and carcasses and deer remains here. It's disgusting.

Every week there's a new pile. So you'd think that it would be easy to figure out who may be doing this. If I were the game warden I'd stake a truck out there randomly during the week. If nothing else....just to let the people who are doing this know that I was trying to catch them.

Re: Ready to cuss

Unfortunately Ken, afraid that in some areas there are some who are in positions who would rather turn the cheek than get involved. Not by any means making that comment with any derogatory intentions directed towards all who uphold the law as I respect them a great deal, but for whatever reasons there are those bad apples or lazy ones out there who will simply not do what they are supposed to.

Really I can understand their frustration in some instances where they may possibly even get burned out, I mean after all if you catch people repeatedly only to have a judge let them go, because the law is written in favor of the violators, then it would be easy to see why some officers might not be all that gung ho about trying to investigate.

All that said, least the game officer could have done is filed a formal complaint and come out and looked and offered to patrol the area in the future.

This Andrea, makes it worth looking into further. That part was not in your original post. Not speaking for your guy, but if it was me, I would try some enforcement by patrolling in an unmarked vehicle and catching someone on the side of the road. They will spot the DEC vehicle and will only stop until the heat is off. That is how scumbags work. I personally would not "sit" there, but would patrol it numerous times throughout a shift to see if someone is ever "sitting" on the side of the road in a vehicle, maybe even slowing or stopping, or pulling away. Since it has been occurring all the time, I would definitely think he could at least put forth some effort.

Thats pretty brave duing that so close to the wardens house. Almost like someone is taughting him.

[/ QUOTE ]

They probably have no idea he lives there.

[/ QUOTE ]

Hate to sound cynical here, but you never know. Seeing that the warden is unwilling to do anything, maybe they know him and know he wont do anything.
