JJL
If you take the time to read books during the off-season, I highly suggest this literary classic. [image][/image]

iron buck
Re: Classic Literature...... The best one I heard was "pick a caliber that works when everthing goes wrong......not one that requires everything to go right" Or something along those lines. Makes lots of sense. Rurack was writing about Africa. Great book by the way. Over there...you pay a trophy fee if yu draw blood....EVEN IF you do not get the animal. We are talking THOUSANDS of dolars in many cases..not a few bucks. Makes you re-evaluate what rifle you pick to hunt with. Especially when things bite back! Here in the states, to me, this means using a 338 win mag at a minimum when hunting in areas that have gizzlies. I defintely would not go lower than a 300 win mag. Have you ever stood beside a mount & looked at those claws! In yellowstone I had a grizzlie walk THROUGH camp, 10 yards outside my tent during early evening....tense situation is an undestatement! I'd want a whole lot more than a 270 when hunting in areas like that! So.........yes.....use enough gun. Enough gun to bail your A$$ out if needed! [/ QUOTE ] If everyone adheared to that statement, bowhunting would have been extinct decades ago. It's an offensive weapon not a defensive weapon. I do agree that it is a little different when hunting Africa.

Many people don't know this but RR LOVED a nice cup of cocoa when he was in the brush! He called it a little slice of chocolaty heaven!
