Adjam5
Last week I picked up on Ebay, 2 recurves. One is a vintage Ben Pearson Javelina 66" 45lbs and 28" draw and the other is a Bear, Black Bear Hunter 58" 40lbs and 28"draw. I learned to shoot a bow on a compound back in the late 80's and I feel myself being drawn lately, to the primitive methods of hunting. I have yet to pick out some sticks to fling. I am leaning towards the port orford cedar stuff, but my old aluminum eastons will work for a while. But I must say I am looking forward to making fletchings with turkey feathers that I have harvested. I understand the recurve is a whole different world than shooting my Mathews. I am whole heartedly looking forward to another facet of my/our hobby.
JimPic
Re: Just bought 2 Stick and Strings You're gonna have fun!! I'm waiting on a new longbow to come in this week and I just bought a new longbow 3 weeks ago(it's a sickness-I hope you catch it too ). Those 2 bows are great weights to get started on.That 66" Pearson is gonna draw so smooth!
magnatecsteve
Re: Just bought 2 Stick and Strings I've been bit by the traditional bug as well. Good luck with your recurves. It is definately challenging shooting traditional but addictive. Don't get discouraged though. Finding the right arrow is definately more complex with traditional than compounds. I shoot both cedar and aluminum. Cedar out of my longbow and aluminum out of my recurve.Best of luck and have fun!!
Adjam5
Re: Just bought 2 Stick and Strings Thanks guys..I'm waiting on a stringer so I can string without endangering the bow. I still not have picked out any shafts. I have until it gets warm to do that But just picking them up and playing with them has me excited. Even my sons( 3 of 'em) want to take a few shots out if it Those dang Howard Hill vids put the bug in me. This is the start of something good.
