Huntr104
I was curious about obtaining a FFL and possibly selling guns from my home as a side business. Have any of you done this or actually have a FFL and sell firearms from your home? How hard is it to acutally get an FFL? I've seen a few websites that offer FFL Kits for sale but am skeptical about paying for them. ANy advice or infor would be appreciated. LETMGROW
Re: Obtaining a FFL?? I used to have an FFL license. The rules have become so stringent it is hardly worth the bother, let alone the cost. When the Bureau of alcohol ,tobacco and firearms came into my home to inspect it I was a little surprised to hear they wanted me to have barred windows, a security system and a large liability Ins. policy. This was after I was approved and actually got the license. Then they questioned the zoning for business in my area. With all the Big Box IE: Gander Mountain, Cabella's and Bass Pro Shops popping up all over you have a tough time competing for price. Their buying power is just too great. You can make a couple dollars on used guns but you have to be really careful what you buy. There is the possibility you bought junk unknowinlgy or it could be a stolen piece. Trades are always suspect. In most states you are bound to some sort of warranty. The fees are climbing each year also. You will find Not for profit orgs. etc will want to ask you for a deal! Your friends will want a deal. When you pay the license fee you can't expect much help. Unless you are going to get into the business full time you might better forget the FFL idea. I gave mine up!
