Thanks to my trail cam for this one

After pulling my trail camera and coming down sick on Saturday, Jan. 6th, I discovered this tall tined 8 point captured by my trail cam. Here’s cuts out of 3 pictures I got of him.

Needless to say there was no doubt in my mind he was a shooter but I reluctantly went home to get some medication and get some relief. By midday Monday I couldn’t stand it and felt good enough to go after him and with everyone else gone I’d have the whole club to myself. When I arrived at camp I quickly showered, changed into my hunting cloths, gathered my turkey blind and set up my blind around a slight depression to hunt that buck. I was only set up 15 minutes when the first deer showed up. Just a couple of fawns but comforting to know they are on the move. After seeing a couple more does and 3 more fawns a nice, massive 8 point comes in. Not the buck I was after but certainly a shooter that has me 2nd guessing whether to wait on the long tined buck or not. Needless to say I went through a few gut wrenching moments before I made my decision to wait on the trial cam buck that I knew was bigger. He didn’t show up that afternoon or the next morning but the following afternoon turned out in my favor.

As happened the prior afternoon deer started moving early again. Before the 1st rack buck showed up at 5:00, I had already seen 10 deer. That 1st rack buck turned out to be a buck I had gotten a trail cam pic of on August 24th. He had disappeared since that time. Here’s what he looked like in velvet.

15 minutes go by while I’m enjoying seeing that buck for the 1st time in hard horn when I see another rack buck moving in behind him. I really couldn’t believe my eyes. It’s him!! It’s one thing to get a picture of a nice one on a trail camera but another to have him walk out in front of you after only 2 days of going after him. I waited for him to clear some brush as he slowly moved toward the other buck before I put a hole in him. He scores 135 even with a 17 5/8” spread. Have to thank cuddeback for this one. Here's how he looks with my hand around his rack.
