Strut10
Re: Scope ties OTPG!!! Not so fast, Skippy. If you wanna start counting OTPG posts, you're gonna need to go back to where it all started......in October of 2006 with this post (by me, of course!! ): [ QUOTE ] Bearcat........ I agree with your whole post.....except one thing: [ QUOTE ] Adding an extra 100-200 yards reach on the great old 30-06 is just icing on the cake [/ QUOTE ] That's not the case. Actually........at least trajectory-wise...........even the .300 Rem. Ultra Mag. only gives about 63 yards more reach when considering point-blank-range on a 10" wital. In other words.......on a 10" vital......to be able to hold dead-center and still be in the vital area (somewhere between 5" high or low of center) the .300 RUM allows you to hold dead-on to 394 yards whereas the '06 drops out of the vitals at 331 yards. (This comparison was done using factory Remington Premium Scirocco Bonded ammo figures) The RUM does carry a significantly larger amount of energy at those distances. However the added energy is really not needed to drop a whitetail at that range. I don't feel too much of a need to justify the guns in my safe, Bearcat. Neither do you. I think you're in this with me. I shoot what I shoot because I want to and I can. If recoil bothers someone, then, by all means, back off. If ammo cost is an issue.......30/30 shells are $5.98 a box at Dick's this week (after rebate, of course). If ya wanna maximize your shooting experience........quit running around backwards with the little calibers and step off the porch and shoot with the big dawgs. Sometimes happiness is measured in f.p.s. and ft./lbs. [/ QUOTE ]

[/ QUOTE ] Just a sad last-ditch argument tossed up by little gun shooters everywhere. Big guns don't ruin any more meat than the pea-shooters if'n a feller knows how to shoot. Even less ruination in a lot of cases. Try again.

Nosler Partition blew up and ruined the whole front quarter! I sold that blasted MAGNUM and went back to my 270, 308 and 30-06 and have never had a problem since! More smoke from the OTPG! That all it is!!
Strut10
Re: Scope ties OTPG!!! Whadda ya think a .270, .308 or '06 woulda done when it hit the off shoulder?? Just curious.

[/ QUOTE ] I have done that with the '06 & 270 and have ruined some meat, but not the whole shoulder blown up! An outfitter I know real well has one thing to say about the MAGNUMS! He likes the 338 Mag. that his clients carry because he can see a puff of dirt at 300 yards when they miss! He hates the 7mm Mag and any 30 caliber Mag. Can never see where the people are hitting and they are all over the place when they are shooting at elk! He prefers that the hunters would carry a 270, 308 or 30-06! He has said time and again that when hunter shows up with any of those 3 calibers, he knows they are going to put the bullet in the boiler room! He also has said many times that the real reason most people carry magnums is because they are unsure of themselves and get lousy hits and it is enough to wound an animal and then he spends the rest of the day tracking! He hates it! He also says that he wishes the 7mm Mag would be discontinued because that is the worst caliber he has seen for wounding an animal! Especially elk! He has been outfitting for over 20 years and he guides for deer, elk, bear and cougars! He has seen it all when it comes to shooting at animals! Pudd
Re: Scope ties OTPG!!! Obviously you don't understand the capability of a 7mm, seen it a million times , mostly in the sport of archery . where the shooter always blames the equipment ,TRY BLAMING THE SHOOTER1
Texan_Til_I_Die
Re: Scope ties OTPG!!! Good shooters are good shooters, period. Carrying a magnum (or any weapon with significant recoil) won't change that. If someone is flinching because of recoil and doesn't recognize that fact, then they're not a good shooter. And if you're insecure with your shot placement with any weapon, large or small, increasing the downrange performance isn't going to help. If there was a shooting proficiency test required before someone could get a hunting license, how many hunters would fail? Heck, I wonder how many members of this forum would fail? TexasDeerHunter
Re: Scope ties OTPG!!! I agree that most folks are ready to blame the gun or the bullet when indeed it is the shooter.
LETMGROW
Re: Scope ties OTPG!!! I'm glad I started this discussion. Guess the OTPG isn't so special after all. We here at Scope never felt the need to get ON the porch anyway, resting and nursing a sore shoulder. We would rather be out shooting. Not working a part time job to buy our Macho Magnum ammo. Thankfully, we didn't fall off the porch like maybe some OTPG members did. I think a few hit their heads!

Strut10
Re: Scope ties OTPG!!! Guess I oughta 'splain that the posts get pinned by your illustrious leader. How many you up to?? 10??? No.....wait..........11 if you count Texastrophies' boy & his BB gun.
