IllinoisHunter
Re: Virtual Memory Question. You can buy a separate hard drive that plugs into your PC and move some of your stored files, games, etc. to it at Best Buy, Circuit City, etc. I'm not sure what they run, but it will take a big burden off of your built-in hard drive. Also, I would look to get rid of some stuff you don't need.

[/ QUOTE ] The Staples near me just had some externals that had 250 GB for $80. I got one that is 320 GB and a new puter with 250 GB, It beats the old one I have with 75 GB. (Somehow I lost 50 GB) I now can upload the stuff back that I stored on discs to keep space and start playing games again.
Leo
Re: Virtual Memory Question. Addressing the hard drive space handles the virtual memory problem. Emptying the recycle bin, clearing your browser cache and removing some restore points is a quick fix. You actually don't want your computer using virtual memory, unless you don't mind it being slow. You probably need more physical Ram as well. Those service packs and updates add processes that chew up memory. Nowadays 384mb is bare minimum on an XP system. I recommend at least 512mb or 1GB if you can get it.
Randy
Re: Virtual Memory Question. I have an HP Slimline. I have XP. Should I go through all the programs that comes with it and delete a bunch of them that I don't uses? Also If I have a bunch of E-mails that I keep in a "funnies" file does that use a bunch of memory too?
Leo
Re: Virtual Memory Question. Likely the emails aren't taking up too much hard drive space. Only remove programs you have the installation disk for. Many programs share dll's if during your unistall you zap one of those it can cause other programs you want not to work. Don't just delete EXEs. Use Add Remove programs or the unistall wizard for that program. Just deleting EXEs makes a mess of your registry which really can haunt you. Downloaded Music and Vid clips are the biggest space hogs on a hard drive. Concentrate on those first.
smallmunster
Re: Virtual Memory Question. I would see how much free space is on your hard drive before I got too carried away deleting stuff. If it is not close to full that is probably not the problem. Also check how much ram you have installed. Also make sure your virus and spyware software is up to date and scan your PC. All those funny emails could have viruses or trojans that are causing you problems as well. It is pretty hard for me to think that your HDD is out of space after one year unless you use if for video editing.
