Re: Another Pitt Bull Kill

One of the best dogs you could ever have around kids and other animals right here. She was a lover, and would only become agitated if she thought the wife or kids were being threatened. And YES she had the ability to tear someone limb from limb, but she never once showed anyone any aggression.

For you experts out there, what breed you think she is?

Re: Another Pitt Bull Kill

True story....no lie.

My coworker just went to visit a family member in ICU because she was petting an Akita and tried to untagle the chain that was wrapped around its leg. Voila, a trip to ICU and almost died because the akita lunged and grabbed her by the neck. Clipped the major arteries and she came REAL close to dying.

I'll get some more details once he gets off the phone...I'm eavesdropping.

These discussions always get people who own these dogs peeved because "my dog is a sweetheart that wouldn't harm a fly". Well, isn't that what most people are going to say about their dog...right after it kills someone?

That's "Akita".

Don't know why I thought it mattered. There's very little else in this thread correctly based on fact, either.

Thank you, fixed that one.

They love their dogs, it is hard to talk facts with them! laugh.gifwink.gif

Wish we had a greater swiss mountain dog, they are beautiful dogs.

I can hook you up with a real good breeder when you're ready. wink.gif

This dog while everyone thought she was almost pure bred rottweiler had NO rottweiler in her at all.

Yeah. But she looks menacing. Better outlaw her.

That's a flawed argument.

Strange out of reading this whole "debate" that's all I have seen, other than some facts that Andrea has used to support her theory.

My only personal dealing with the Pit Bull breed 2 years ago one of the places I deer hunt the owners boy bought 2 pitbulls. When I pulled up to the house I saw the first one and was a little concerned about heading to the house. But it only took a second to realize that she was in no way shape or form an aggressive dog - in fact she is probably the most submissive dog I have seen.

In talking with one of the boys later, he asked what I thought about the new "breed" they had at the house. I told him that I thought the white pit was one of the nicest dogs I've seen. His response was Ummm... have you seen the tan one yet? I told him that I hadn't and his reply was don't trust the tan one for a second.

My first experience with the tan pit was after a good days hunt we were getting ready to hang the deer in the barn. The tan pit ran in and grabbed/bit one of the deer right on the muzzle and started dragging it. The one brother yelled at the other brother to get his dog out of there and he came in and pulled it off. They came relatively close to me on the way out and the dog took a small (yet distinct LOL) lunge at me.

The next year I went down I was talking with one of the brothers and both the pit's came over to check us out - the white one was just the same as always but the tan one reacted completely different - wouldn't go as far as saying he was submissive but I would say that he was friendly.

With saying all of that I will never "trust" the tan one, let's just say I'll have a healthy respect for him and always keep my distance and/or my gun loaded.

Re: Another Pitt Bull Kill

The female dog this dog came out of was a pure bred red and white staffordshire terrier, pit bull terrier for those of you who are not familiar with the breed. The male dog was a lab sheppard mix. Not the best pic, the only one I have loaded on this computer. the dog had the blocky bull head all the way.

NO rottweiler in her at all, but most people who met the dog always right away assumed she was mean and was a rott.

Well, now I never said that all pit bulls, Rotts, Akitas or other dogs were viscious man killers. I am sure that a majority that are raised right are perfectly fine.

What I am saying is that virtually all deadly attacks by dogs are from these breeds. To me, that should be enough to outlaw owning those dogs...perhaps in neighborhoods and places where an attack is more likely.

So by owning one of these breeds, you are taking on a lot of risk at other people's expense. Most of the time, the person attacked is NOT the owner or the family. Some people make sure there is zero risk that these dogs will harm someone else. Others don't.

My ex-neighbor had a Rottweiler that had already mauled a gas man in California (somehow he got out of there without it being put down) in a four foot high fence. Now I am not really scared of many things and really am not scared of any dogs...except this one. The thing could have jumped that fence in a single bound (its head was just about up to the bottom of the fence and its head was as wide as my waist), but to my knowledge didn't. That, IMHO, is irresponsible. The dog died of cancer a few months after he moved in so....
