(I've only been bitten by one other dog - my own beagle/G Shephard mix that bit me in the left buttock because I was wearing someone else's pants and she didn't recognize my smell when i jumped out of the truck and ran to her....) Guest Andrea
Re: Another Pitt Bull Kill I was bitten by a German Shepherd when I was 4. Only because my stupid best friend kept saying" Go ahead, pet him, he won't bite!" My cousin was mauled by a pit bull when he was younger. Had to have stitches in his face where his ear was almost ripped off.

dartonman
Re: Another Pitt Bull Kill My wife is an emergency room nurse....she has taken care of some pretty bad cases, and the dogbites are 70 percent pitbulls, and the other chows......the chows are violent dogs as well......only a few rott cases, Ill never forget when I worked as a small town police officer, and an idiot I had a warrant on, took the logging chain off his pitbulls neck, and told the dog to attack me...the dog made it about 4 feet from him owners side before the .45 caliber Sig Sauer barked..........I told the idiot, if he didnt lay down, the second round was already warm and fuzzy and heading his direction.....stupid people with stupid pets....if you have the right to conceal carry in your state...use it..........it may save your life. al
stevebeilgard
Re: Another Pitt Bull Kill let's face it.. there are certain breeds of dogs that are frequent attackers. the insurance companies know what the breeds are. sure, it can be a great personal pet, but it can also be deadly for a stranger. love any breed you want, but i'll leave the known killer breeds alone. ohiobuckhunter
Re: Another Pitt Bull Kill man there sure are alot of people against pit bulls on here you surely don't see this many people get worked up when fluffy the family poodle or lab attacks a dog or person.but as soon as it's a pit everyone is all over saying to ban them and every other idea they can think of.I thought this forum was for hunters...... If so you guys should know that a dog is what you make it nothing is born to be a killer it is taught.. i had two pits and they were the most lovable dogs I ever had. ZooBear
Re: Another Pitt Bull Kill It all boils down to fear. Some people are afraid of certain dogs, so they want them banned. If you look at the stats above it comes out to less than 12 people per year over the last 20 years have been killed by dogs. How many people have drowned in swimming pools in the last 20 years? I am afraid of swimming pools so lets ban all swimming pools. I will be the first one to say that the owner of the dog is responsible for the safety of the people who come into contact with his dog. I just dont think banning breeds is the answer. This was just a dog fight, nobody died. Wonder why it made the news? Oh yeah, PITBULL!!! wtnhunt
Re: Another Pitt Bull Kill Unfortunately there are idiots out there, just like Al points out. Some jerk has a dog with a chain around its neck, the person is obviously an idiot to begin with turns the dog loose to attack someone. So what if the idiot was holding a gun instead of releasing the attack dog and fired a round into Al's chest instead of turning loose the dog? Then we hear more crap abotu banning guns . It is the idiots who do not raise the animals right out there who are the problem here, not the animals themselves. The idea of banning coming from people who CRY loudly about fearing gun bans really floors me. How hypocritical! Banning is not the answer. btw, some good points made about the numbers here, more people die in swimming pools go figure. Would venture to say that the number of dog related deaths is probably relatively low in comparison to the number of people who die at the hands of other people. Actually the number of physician related deaths duue to error is probably higher than dog related deaths, do we also look at banning physicians . [/ QUOTE ] Well, the difference is that when the dogs you mention attack, they bite you and can actually cause some serious problems. However, they don't generally eat your face. The degree of the attack is the issue...my friend had a dahscund growing up and I would torment the poor fellah by shaking the heck out of the washing machine box they used for his home (I know, it was mean) but that little yapper would attack with the best of them. I mean your Rott and Pitts had nothing on him. Except he was too darned small to do anything. These dogs have the attitude (when whatever their button is gets pushed) and they have the ability. Generally their attacks turn out very very badly for the victim. That's the outrage. If propensity to attack was the sole criteria, golden retrievers would be the banned dogs because the last time I saw, they were responsible for the most bites. Kind of odd how the vet found no wound from the supposed stabbing the boy did too.
