Strut10
You can't make up stuff better than this! Ain't politics grand being a Democrat? Jesse Jackson's Newest Staff Member: Mel Reynolds Jesse Jackson has added former Chicago Democrat Congressman Mel Reynolds to Rainbow/PUSH Coalition's payroll. Reynolds was among the 176 criminals excused in President Clinton's last-minute forgiveness spree. Reynolds received a commutation of his six! -and-a-half-year federal sentence for 15 convictions of wire fraud, bank fraud, and lies to the Federal Election Commission. He is more notorious, however, for concurrently serving five years for sleeping with an underage campaign volunteer. This is a first in American politics: An ex-congressman who had sex with a subordinate...won clemency from a president who had sex with a subordinate...then was hired by a clergyman who had sex with a subordinate! His new job? Ready for this?? *******YOUTH COUNSELOR****** IS THIS A GREAT COUNTRY OR WHAT? Snopes status: True

[/ QUOTE ] I think most politicians do.....anywhere that you can vote to give yourself a raise is imaginary, anywhere that you can spend $1.2trillion on something but not include it in a budget is imaginary, anyone who thinks its okay to grant blanket amnesty or "guest worker" to a couple million people is living in an imaginary world. I really dont see the differance between appointing someone convicted of a crime to youth development and appointing a mining millionair to the head of the B.L.M. its all a crock i dont see where one party is more guilty of this than another. They all are of another planet.

What I see are a lot of people (some close relatives included) who, for the lack of a better way to put it, don't know any better. I routinely ask certain questions to people I know who are democrats or who have voted that way............questions concerning their opinions on gay marriage, taxes, guns, abortion......a bunch of the litmus items. More often than not, the answers they give have no correlation with the mainstream democrat positions on the topics. I contend that many, many Pennsylvanians (and I can't think it's much different elsewhere) are democrats because their daddy was one, his daddy was one and they were told that they was one, too. If a person truly believes in his heart in the core democrat principles, then bully for him. I don't have a problem with it. It's the people who think as conservatives but are (excuse me, please) too danged dumb to know any better that irk me.

Its just As DUMB as not knowing where you stand on the fence. I use the word "dumb" (from Merriam-Webster : "not having the capability to process data") because that's just what I meant. I suppose I could have used "oblivious" or "ignorant" or "uneducated". Maybe those sound more P.C. Maybe I get a little fervent in my posts in this room. What you maybe don't realize is how much I hold back in here due to website constraints. I feel waaay more strongly about my convictions than you know. So I calls 'em as I sees 'em. I'm really good at using the term "socialist". It's not because it is a derrogatory tag term. It defines a system of governing. And the leadership of today's democrat party are preaching and practicing european socialism. wtnhunt
Re: It\'s great to be a democrat!!! Don't know about that Strut. Would like to think my parents despite my step father having had brain surgery not so long back are fairly intellectual. Matter of fact, my mother was a Mensa member. Last time around they fell under the impression that Bush was bad, that he was going to hurt them and that they would possibly lose some of their benes, and that Bush was somehow responsible for that. They voted their situation and voted for Kerry, still dont know how my stepfather pulled himself to vote for that flip flop piece of crap after he himself was in nam for more than his share of time, but they let themselves think Kerry would be the lesser of two evils. My stepfather has become a disabled Vietnam vet in the past few years with injuries that he let go back then from jumping from choppers and overexposure to agent orange, unfortunately he is now in poor health with more and more problems coming up all the time. They need all the help they can get, and they really believe that republicans are not good for them, despite the fact that they used to most often vote republican back when my step father had a thriving business. Honestly I think more people do vote their situations which I can understand, but think sometimes people through misleading political garbage, might not fully understand just what they are voting for when they vote for their candidates. Seems somewhat ignorant in a way, but that does not necessarily make those people ignorant if that makes any sense. Sad thing is that my parents do not support most of what dems do support. I have a pretty good feeling where your convictions lie, we have gone back and forth in here for a long time, and i respect every moment of it. The reason for what i said is more between the lines. Alot posts that come out of this room make us look like a bunch of dumb rednecks(and i know that couldnt be farther from the truth) I think we need to realize that BOTH parties are far from there roots and (all) american politicians need a swift kick in the rear. I dont see where aiming the shot at one party does anyone any good. two wrongs never make a right....much fewer words than the last post but says the same thing. muggs
Re: It\'s great to be a democrat!!! I just think that anyone who blindly follows one party, as the be-all-end-all is not being very logical. I think I rational person may tend to agree with one side or the other, but an irrational person is one who fails to see when the party they claim allegiance to is in fact really screwing up. Anyway, the disparity of wealth in this country is like no other and the rich will continue to get richer as the poor get poorer. When and who I choose to vote for really boils down to which crook I trust the most. In every single election I've been of age to vote in...its been the Republican crook who's won out every time. But I don't believe people can overcome their economic class stratification...unless they win the lottery or have some other rare event happen to them. If you honestly think about it, how many people do you know who are considered lower-class or middle-class have ascended to the higher economic class? There may be people who have improved marginally, but that's it. You don't come from lower-class means and get to the level of upper-class...maybe you could have some years ago, but with our current society, its nearly impossible. If you seriously consider it, I think you'll find that point hard to argure. And how it relates to the topic is, that we can moan and bicker over this until our heads explode...but anyone of us here will never really be a true decision maker. [/ QUOTE ] Ummmm.................I know, personally, three people (right off the top of my head) who came from lower-middle class backgrounds that are worth gazillions right now. One was a high-school jock. One was a straight C- student. One dropped out of the university geology department. No special talents or programs. Just the desire to excel. All three have occurred within the last few years. No matter which party a fellow wants to blame poverty on ( )..........you can keep paying folks to be poor and expect them to do anything else but produce (and procreate) poverty. I will reiterate that the U.S. government (you can look up which party started the programs) has removed $7,000,000,000,000,000 of money from the pockets productive members of this society to redistribute (which, by definition, is socialism, by the way) in the name of the "War on Poverty". What it's bought for us is $7,000,000,000,000,000 worth of poverty and no victory in the "War on Poverty" in sight. Nobody's asking for a re-deployment or exit strategy in hte "War on Poverty". buckee
Re: It\'s great to be a democrat!!! It's the cost of living these days that is putting a lot of folks in the poor house. Not because they aren't working. The cost of everything has sky-rocketed, but our wages haven't. Now whether that's all the Governments fault, or the rich men getting richer, I don't know. A little of both maybe.

I can't really think of anything to type alone these lines, since it has pretty much been debated to exhaustion. I will make one comment though about a statement in the opening post, about the end of term pardons that Clinton handed out. Well, every president, on his last day in office, doles out pardons to whomever he feels like. I can't wait to see the list W comes up with, I sure hope there aren't any criminals on it.
