pa_sportsman
A buddy of mine will soon move to CT near its shore and is interested in purchasing equipment to surfcast from a nearby beach. He is looking at a reel made by Okuma and asked me what I know about that company. Since I don't know anything about the company or its equipment, I would like to ask those of you who have experience with their reels to provide feedback. I appreciate the help. turkaholic
Re: Surfcasters - Request for Assistance I have fished in CT and RI and your friend moving may be a good thing for you. Depending what type of fishing he's into. I like the Penn 704z Spinfisher. That reel has landed me hundreds of pounds of bass in the 34 years that I have used and abused it. I have down sized my tackle these days and use an 8 foot rod and 12lb test. I fish on Block Island RI alot and had fish to 35lbs on 12lb test in the middle of december. Light tackle is fun in the right conditions. I also fly fish for stripers out of a kayak at night close to the beach. The stripers pull you all around. If your friend needs help getting set up tell him to go or call Boondocks 860-535-3474 in North Stonington Ct. It is just down the road from Foxwoods Casino. The stripers will appear in April but the chew on BI will be the first new moon in May. The people at Boondocks will hook you up.
