Re: Has anybody ever heard of Noel Feathers

I have heard a lot of things....none good.

I have actually caught him in one of my stands before, believe it or not. I asked his name and he told me, but at that time I had no idea who he was and he said he had permission to be hunting the land. I told a guy that i work with that a guy by the name of Noel Feather was hunting one of my stands. He then told me that, yeah there is supposed to be a big name deer hunter in the area hunting. He then told me about all of the trouble he had been in the the past. I was pretty mad that I did not know who he was when i caught him in my stand. I would not have been as nice as I was!....but at the same time It was not my land anyway...just land I had permission to hunt on.

Another guy I know real well told me he was in my area again this year hunting. I hope he wasnt!

I believe Noel Feather ruined his carrier, when he was caught trying to pass of a P&Y buck as a legally shot deer, when in fact it was shot in an enclosure, and transported illegally across state lines. This was a long time ago.

Actually, I believe it was an elk he shot. The photo was published. Then, somebody recognized the spot where the photo was taken as a location in Yellowstone or some national park where he shouldn't oughta been shooting critters. He was summarily busted & his fame and career thrashed.

Probably could Google up a ton of info on it.

Re: Has anybody ever heard of Noel Feathers

Don,I think you're thinking of another famous hunting name, Chad Berry , who got caught just last year(I think) with that elk. Hard to keep track of them all these days

Chad Berry story

I could be wrong. The Noel Feather incident happened many moons ago.

Re: Has anybody ever heard of Noel Feathers

I remember seeing a video that featured Noel Feather bowhunting for whitetail deer. He shot a deer, and proclaimed that he pulled off the "Texas heart shot" which he went on to explain that is what it is called when a deer is shot in the back side. I remember a lot of bad things happening to him and his name after that.

Re: Has anybody ever heard of Noel Feathers

Aparently Noel Feather shot a couple of bucks across a state line where season was closed and drove them across state lines to check them, because they would break that states record. He probably would not have gotten caught except that both of these monsters had a chip implanted in them by the game and fish of the state where season was closed. It was about 10 years ago.

I also heard that other tropies of his entered in the record books were in question too, and were all stricken from the record books.

Re: Has anybody ever heard of Noel Feathers

I got to meet him once. He made an appearance at the old "Gun and Knife show" here in Columbus when I was about seven or eight years old. They were holding a raffle for a chance to win a hunting trip with him. He asked me to come up on stage and pick the winner out of the bag. I had no idea who he was at the time.

Re: Has anybody ever heard of Noel Feathers

Here is what I remember of him before his incident.

Noel was well respected as an expert at rattling. He was a paid presenter at several outdoor events. He also appears on some of the earlier Realtree Monster Bucks videos.

Re: Has anybody ever heard of Noel Feathers

Yep, he was one of the first big names in deer hunting. Kind of like the Michael Waddell of several years ago. Most of the people my age around here knew of him. Was a big surprise when he got busted. Had never heard about him doing anything bad until that fatefull day he got caught. It ruined his name & career. Yes, he got what he deserved. Just goes to show what some people will do for fame & money. I wish they would catch every one of the big names or anyone for that matter that illegaly harvest any animal. I am not making any accusations but I would bet that there is at least one of the present so called big name hunters who has harvested a nice buck illegaly for the camera, money or fame. It is a pretty competitive thing among some now. As I said I am not accusing anyone. I have no facts or info into anything to accuse anyone of this. I just think as big as deer hunting has gotten & as many people as there are trying to make a buck at it that there is a very good chance of it. Look at the big buck that buckee posted for me that was killed here last year. Guy seen fame & money so some things happened. I know he wasn't a big name hunter but it is just an example. I am sure that 99.9 % of the big names out there are legit. It just takes that one guy, like Noel Feather did,to make you wonder.

Re: Has anybody ever heard of Noel Feathers

He is just another one of the "bowhunting heros" that have been led astray by the pressure of hunting for a living. The list keeps growing. It is one of the things that keeps me from investing a lot of hero worship in these guys. The pressure to bend the rules just a bit has to be pretty intimidating when your income is on the line in a business that requires consistant performance. That has led to the downfall of a lot of these professional hunter/entertainers.

Back in the day one of Noel's favorite hunting buddies was Dan Fitzgerald. Dan was never accused or convicted of any game violations though as far as I know anyway. To bad maybe if he would of been him and that dopey kid of his wouldn't have a show.

[/ QUOTE ]

Like it or not, Dan has done more for bowhunting than Bob Foulkrod, Bill Jordan or any big name hunter out there. I agree that I don't like his son's input but Dan himself has done nothing wrong with is messages he puts out. He's honest and you can tell when he's acting because he's no good at it which means he's not a good liar. Don't be hacking on Dan and then insinuating that he had something to do with Noel Feather's illegal activities. Your speculations are fuel for Anti's and bad for everyone here. If you have no proof then I'd appreciate you keeping your conspiracie's to yourself.

As far as Noel is concerned, I heard that he was transporting either from Illinois to Missouri or vice versa and that he was not only caught with the animals but that when tested, the animals were found to be poisoned so that no matter where he hit the animal, they'd still die fairly quickly. Kind of like the Rhino bullets banned a few years ago. Any way, I did see a video of Dan and Noel back in about 84 and they were hunting together. Since then though, I have watched more of their videos than I have of RT or anyone elses and they are legit. I just purchased 3 newer videos from Team Fitzgerald and they do suck. Guy needs to shut up and let Dan handle business. Guy's mean to his dad and just takes over in every scene. He needs to learn sincerity and how to be humble like his father instead of showing how cool he is and how good he is.

When these 2 started out, some of their earliest videos were pretty good and showed the real impact of hunting. then Noel did get caught in Yellowstone with an elk, that was suppossedly shot fair chase. After that, you didn't hear from them for a while and then Dan reemerged doing shows with his son a few years later. I think one of the first videos was called "Passing Through"

The funny thing is.. he isn't cool or good! In fact, he is the worst archer I have ever seen on a video!
