My Own Archery Range........

I guess it has been a while, and I haven't kept many of you up to date on this........A while back the wife and I had bought the old bolwing alley in our home town. It was only a 4 laner and had been closed for several years due to the equipment being old and worn out.

So two years ago, I started stripping all of the machines and lanes out.......we had decided to make it into an archery range, and slowly develop it into a business, catering to archers and anything else outdoors related.

Well I've been busting butt on it this winter on my off days..........been getting alot done........backstop is in and have been using a little myself already, LOL

Basically only have some windows in the division wall to put in, and then lots of painting, etc.........here's some of the latest pics.........

This pic shows the division wall from the store side, and the opening cut out for the windows........can see the backstop, and the curved seating for the archers, which I did salvage from the bowling alley.........also I installed some seating for spectators to use, to watch through the glass, without disturbing the archers.......

The right side is basically the same....more seating and windows.........I also added double doors, which can be opened up for specific nights, when we will shoot 30 and 40 yards instead of just 20.....

I'll try to post more pics, as things come together more quickly in the next couple of weeks........I do think I'm gonna save some of the more tedious jobs like trimwork for this summer though........Clay

Looks sweet Clay.

What's the backstop made out of? Looks like compressed cardboard?

The backstop is made out of 4x8 sheets of 1/2" sound board cut into 16" wide strips (so I can get 3 sections per sheet) So to make a long story short, there is just over 100 4x8 sheets making up that backstop......it is a little expensive, but will be well worth it.

The archery room is 24 feet wide, so it should hold 12 archers rather comfortably. I'm in the process of lining up advertising, selling banners that can be printed and laminated with business names, which i will hang in the range. I have a list of over 50 that have committed to these banners already that will easily help finance the overhead plus the 3D targets I want to use as well.

All of the ranges in the state have been club owned....until mine...it is the only privately owned one. I am also comtemplating on holding maybe one 300round tourney yet this spring. Which is also a bonus when we hold tourneys, because our church youth group can sell the food and drinks as a fund raiser....win/win.....

I'm pretty excited as i finally see things start to come together........it took nearly a year stripping everything out, and it was pretty disheartening, because then I wasn't seeing any real progress......but I am now.........it's been a ton of work, but it will be worth it......

PS. There was also enough room in this side, behind the backstop to include a 30foot long garage in the back.......I knocked out part of the backwall, installed a 9x7 garage door, and use that for storing my toys and as a work shop...... smile.gif

Re: My Own Archery Range........

Clay nice, very nice. you know i have been wondering when you might get this done. how long did it take you to cut the sound board? our shop here had the same stuff and if you keep it compressed tight enough it works great.

when your shop is done, im making a road trip to come see it.. wink.gif
