Turkeygirl
So I think I've decided to stick with the Beman ICS 500 arrows since they work really well for me. I sent jerry on AY an pm abotu arrows, haven't heard back yet. I decided to look online for anyone who sells them. I found that archerycountry.com sells them for $60, I can get them fletched with Blazers, cut to whatever length, and for an additional $20 have wraps put on. At huntersfriend.com for $77 I can get them cut and fletched however I want. Are either of these good deals? Are wraps a good idea or not necessary? Also my current arrow length is about 25 1/2"; could I have new arrows cut to 26" and would they still fly like my current ones or should I stick to 25 1/2" And one more thing, I saw on those 2 websites they ask how you want the vanes set, like @ a 4 degree r or left helical, etc...or just normal with a 1 degree offset. What's the best choice? My current 4" vanes are basically straight. Thanks!
tedicast
Re: Question about arrows...again With you passion for archery Ruth, you should really look into setting up to fletch your own. That was you can replace a ripped vane, and fletch and wrap however you like. Wraps are a personal preference. I like them on my hunting arrows. I don't use them on my practice or 3D arrows. The downside of a wrap, is it is nearly impossiblr to just replace 1 vane. You normally have to strip the shaft to replace a vane when wrapped. Thats why only my hunting arrows are wrapped. My wrapped, and unwrapped arrows group together out to 40 yards, even with broadheads. I have personally never shot helical, I only shoot a slight offset. I have no trouble with fixed blade broadhead flight. Some will tell you that you need hard helical to make fixed blade bh's fly. If you need heleical to make your bh's fly, you have a bow or arrow tuning problem, and the helical is a crutch. Is there a reason you want to add 1/2" to your arrows? It will add a few grains to your weight, but honestly probably won't affect your point of impact very much. Keystone Country store has Beman ICS Hunters for $69 fletched. I have had really good luck with everything I have ordered from Keystone. Hope this helps a little.
LifeNRA
Re: Question about arrows...again Just seen Bohning makes a Blazer Fletching Jig. That might be right up your alley! Its very easy to do! http://www.bohning.com/archery/2557.xml?division=archery
Turkeygirl
Re: Question about arrows...again Well if my 25 1/2" arrows are fine with a 26" DL, then I guess I probably don't need to have them a 1/2" longer. Blazer vanes won't be too light for my set- up though will they? (since I have 4" vanes right now). How much do one of those fletching things cost? I suppose if I got one and some Blazers, it would be cheaper to do it myself, and I could add wraps if I wanted or not.
PAstringking
Re: Question about arrows...again it is nice to have a jig at your house because you can experiment with different vanes, combinations vane/broadheads, and other things of that nature! its a great investment!! Turkeygirl
Re: Question about arrows...again Wow, those jigs aren't cheap. Maybe I can find one used on archery talk. What should I look for in a jig if I decide to get one and do my own arrows? any jigs that you can fletch both Blazers or regular vanes in? LifeNRA
Re: Question about arrows...again Well, you could spend about $65 for what I have, a Bitzenburger. Almost every pro shop I been in uses them. One shop had 36 jigs on a round table that turns. Allowing them to do 36 arrows at a time! Thats $2340! Which is probably why they charge an arm and a leg to re-fletch arrows! $44 for that jig doesnt seem too bad. But I wouldnt get it because that jig is for the Blazer vanes only. Or the shorter vanes anyway. I like the fact that I can do any vanes with my Bitz.
tedicast
Re: Question about arrows...again The Bitz isn't a cheap jig, but it is money well spent. When you look at the factthat you are getting charged arounf $15 extra to fletch a dozen arrows. the jig pays for itself in short order. The only thing you need to worry about is getting your arrows cut to length.
Turkeygirl
Re: Question about arrows...again I keep forgetting I got a $50 check from my Uncle for my birthday:-) Hmm....So if I went with the Bitz jig, I see on AT people mention diff. clamps (right helical, left, etc..) What would I need, since I'm like you Tedi and my arrows aren't helical anyway.
tedicast
Re: Question about arrows...again You would need the base, a straight clamp. and a nock reciever. Look on AT for a used one maybe and save a few bucks. If you bought a new one, it would easily last the rest of your life, and then some! LifeNRA
Re: Question about arrows...again The nock receiver that comes with the Bitz is the one that does all the settings. I just bought the one that only has the 120 degree setting. Plus its nice that it automattically aligns your c ock vane to the nock.
