i was watching this today and the host (i forget his name) was talking about archery equipment. he said that carbon arrows will always bust when hitting bone so you should always shoot aluminum arrows. then to follow that up he said you shouldnt pull more then 50lbs. with your bow. passthroughs are a waste and you want the arrow to stick in the deer.

i disagree with all of that

how about you??

I disagree also. I think that a non-pass through shot in the lugs will slow the animal from going down. A pass through would cause more trauma to the lungs. I know you can get pass throughs with only 50lbs but to say that they are a waist of time is kind of rediculous.

Re: Whitewater Trail TV show!!

I'm guessing he's thinking by the arrow still in the deer it will be moving all around and still cutting up the inside of the deer...

I dont know tthat I agree with that.

And the 50 lbs thing. I am sure thats enough to kill a deer. But I would think if you can pull more you should. I would like to see the penitration of a shoulder shot with 50 lbs draw weight...

Sounds like some silly statements to me.

Re: Whitewater Trail TV show!!

another thing i forgot to mention is that the heavier the bow the better...now i understand that you want some weight there but thats a pretty bold statement.

he also said the bow he was holding (w/ quiver, 4 arrows, rest, and sight) weighed 3.5lbs. im pretty sure thats a false statement also.

how did he get a hunting show??

Re: Whitewater Trail TV show!!

I watched that show also, his name is Bodie Owens....I saved it to my DVR so I could post it in here with his name... and I thought to myself "what a whacko". After he went on his rant about carbon arrows, I changed the program. He said you need to remove a 6" circle around a carbon arrow wound if it hits bone because of all the carbon "splinters", that will be present. confused.gifblush.gifgrin.gif

Re: Whitewater Trail TV show!!

I sent him an email. It sounds like his thinking is stuck way back when carbon arrows first came out, but that doesn't explain the rest of his nonsense

I SAW THE SAME SHOW AND CAME UNGLUED WHEN I HEARD HIM SAY THAT HE DIDN'T WANT A COMPLETE PASS THROUGH.

IF I HAD SPONSERSHIP OF THAT PROGRAM IT WOULD BE PULLED IN A HEART BEAT.

The Whitewater Trail is an outdoor program designed to educate and inform about the outdoors and our environment.

Focusing on a specific adventure/skill with Bodie Owens, host and creator, each episode includes a personal monologue, the adventure and a handy Outdoorsman’s Tip of the Week.

Seems he is the host AND the creator. Probably can say whatever off the wall crap he wants. I sure hope he responds to the email that was sent to him. Maybe he'll come in here and explain to us in better detail, how he has came to this determination.
