booner1331
Do you think it's easier to find sheds in the snow? or with out snow? Thanks
Turkeygirl
Re: Sheds & snow I don't think I've ever found a shed in the snow. I've looked but I always find them after the snow is melted, so I think it is easier when the snow is gone because they aren't buried.Though I suppose if the antlers are big enough, it doesn't matter, lol! huntermq32
Re: Sheds & snow It depends on the zize. I like a heavy wet snow about 4 or 5 inches deep. This helps to cover some of the sticks and ther things that would apear to look like sheds. The bigger shedds will stick out well above that snow line. All I look for is the top 2or 3 inches of a shedd but if it's a small one it will get coverd up. Shed94
Re: Sheds & snow It all depends if the snow has a hard crust on it then the antlers will stay on top of the snow when they drop and they will stick out.But other then that I find its easier to find them right after a rain man they stick right out and are easy to spot. rad_112176
Re: Sheds & snow I have not found very many sheds but i would say the easiest time to see sheds is when the leaves are wet. The ground is much darker and it allows for the sheds to show up much better. Haven't been into shed hunting long as i said, but when the ground is wet you can see them a far way off sometimes. Guest steeleyes
Re: Sheds & snow When sheds are fresh, snow makes it much easier for spotting them. This is especially true when a shed is dropped in a field of medium to low standing crop.
deershed
Re: Sheds & snow Snow tends to concentrate the deer into smaller areas making sheds easier to find when the snow melts. In my areas my average shed would be buried if I got 4" of snow.If I get a good snow and it sticks around before the majority drop I like that. The deer tend to use the trails already cut in the snow and it's a good time to find them right in the trails. Also a great time to see exactly where the deer are and their travel routes. Most times I get just enough snow to make things a pain in the butt. Not enough to concentrate the deer and just enough to hide a shed and enough that when the sun hits it throws a nasty glare off. The other day I was out in patchy snow and found this one.
Outdoor_Guy
Re: Sheds & snow I have found sheds on the snow, and after the thaw. I'll keep looking either way. A new shed will stand out in the snow and let you see it from a distance.

Guest shedman6o
Re: Sheds & snow WVshedhunter I travel the Rt79 corridor several times each year and in the winter time I see alot of deer on the hillsides.I was wondering if you ever look there for shed antlers.I know that I would love to beable to stop and search some of those areas. That Rt19 stretch is a bad area for speeders and I dont care for that part of the trip at all.
