Guest realtrhunter
Its official Obama announced his canadidacy on Saturday. He did it at the Old State Capitol Building in Springfield, IL. He talked about how great it was to announce his running there because Abraham Lincoln called for the divided house to stand together. He claims that he wants to be the one to reunite the politically divided nation, which was a failure of national leadership. He wants to universalize healthcare (guess he wants a Socialist State now). He said the only thing left to do in Iraq is to bring the soldiers done (never mind finishing something we started). (Info from Daily Egyptian News Paper). This guy is all about getting his name in the books. He is anti-guns, went and studied at an Islamic school in a foreign country, is the son of a man from the MIddle East (Not that they are all bad) and an Atheist Mother. He's from Chicago, most of our state elected officials that have come from there have been corrupt or out of touch in some way. He is deffinatly not who I want to be running this country. Hope ya'll are ready for a rough ride for the next few years.
Texan_Til_I_Die
Re: Obama Announces his run for President I do see one good point to Obama's candidacy. He is getting more fawning adulation from the mainstream media than Hillary is right now. I see a major storm brewing on the horizon between those two, and when it hits, brother you better head for cover!
Texan_Til_I_Die
Re: Obama Announces his run for President BTW - Did anyone else catch his "interview" on 60 Minutes? It might as well have been a free 20 minute campaign commercial.
carbonhunter
Re: Obama Announces his run for President I dont know anything about him except i keep hearing that he was taught at an islamic school? Everything I have read says he lived there from age 3-5(because his mom moved him there)after which his mother sent him back because she wanted him to have an AMERICAN education. Im not standing up for the guy. He is a south chicago democrat so i know he is anti 2nd amend. but i dont think 2-3 pre-teen years can mean he studied islam on his own behalf. Also Im pretty his father was from the middle of Africa (not to be confused with his step-father who was a muslim) I dont want to sound racists by any means but an african american in the white house scares me. I've heard the "well if it was a white guy" thing so many times it makes me sick. Everytime somthing happens to and african american they blame it on there skin color and not the idiot actions they took to get there. I agree with texan though, the republicans should be getting there cards in order, with the mud slinging those two will throw at each-other it should be easy to keep out of the dirt. Guest michael_bolton
Re: Obama Announces his run for President Everyone claims the man is Muslim, he even said he was a Christian, either way, black white, athiest or not, as long as he gets the job done then more power to him. The main question I have is his experience, that is what concerns me. Anyone but Hilary will do.........
Guest WhiskeyMan44
Re: Obama Announces his run for President I am looking forward to the way he runs his campaign. In all of his elections he has never gone the mudslingin' route. He promotes himself, but he doesnt trash an opponents name for his own sake. That's not too common these days. wtnhunt
Re: Obama Announces his run for President The man is anti gun, that is known. The news this morning showed him getting booed in his hometown in Chicago over the weekend sometime when he announced he was running there. Really don't know too much about him either to be honest. He supposedly has a plan to bring home our troops within a relatively short time whether we are finished or not. Apparently some of this talk of cutting out of Iraq has some leaders of some other countries like Australia a bit perturbed.
Guest realtrhunter
Re: Obama Announces his run for President I agree with Carbon hunter on the racisim thing. I have a feeling that there would be a big outlash at the "white" community if he was elected. From what I have headr about his expeirance in running things is that he has no experieance. If he pulls us out of Iraq all it is going to do is ask for alot more problems. A better plan is to stop all the wasting of money to rebuild the country and to also let the Armed Forces finish what they started and secure the entire country. I would like to see everyone back home as soon as possible, but if we pull out too fast it will be worse than it was and is over there. I don't have any experience with that country but I did with Afghanistan and at least there we were able to make it more difficult for the Taliban to get back in. My friends that are over there say that the offensive was called off way to early. By the way... I would rather vote for a Green Party canidate if they were able to do a good job, but I'mnot going to vote for just anyone else besides Hillary. That is what they said about Bush. Guest michael_bolton
Re: Obama Announces his run for President He seems to not play the race card like the other hero's of the black community such as Sharpton or Jackson. His mother was white and father black, whether he is black or white doesn't interest me, I doubt he will call for reparations or increased welfare benefits like some claim. As for being anti gun that is a concern to me, for that reason alone I wouldn't support him- and I stand behind my thought of anyone but Hilary....... except Kerry!! TreeStandBowHunter
Re: Obama Announces his run for President The best sentence out of that whole mess is this "Where is the ACLU? And can you imagine the uproar if a white candidate belonged to a church that promoted a white value system?" The only problem is that we must critically anaylize our sources. How reliable is this source? A source that is too "one-sided" must be questioned for reliability. However, we are talking about Obama so who cares
slugshooter
Re: Obama Announces his run for President I honestly don't see Obama getting the nomination, not because he is black, but because of his inexperience. Right now, the front runners are Clinton and Obama, the two of them will occupy most of their time attacking each other and not see John Edwards come up behind them and take the nomination. Most of Obama's support is on the internet, much like Howard Deans, when Iowa rolls around, then we'll see who the true front runner is. I also wouldn't worry about any type of backlash from the black community if Obama somehow gets the nomination and wins the White House, because believe it or not, Obama's support within the black community is very low. Clinton actually has more support within the black community than Obama. I myself wouldn't worry about Obama coming close to winning the presidency in '08. I belive, IMO, that voters will be deciding between Mitt Romney and John Edwards in '08.

[/ QUOTE ] No way man, Giuliani was just a figure for 9-11. He just happened to be the mayor of NYC at the time when the attacks happened. I want someone who is going to be able to run the country correctly not someone who just happens to be popular because of a terrorist attack. Mitt Romney would get my vote. He was the Gov up here in Massachusetts for 2-terms I guess. Mass is a relativley democratic state and they elected him not once but twice so he must be worth something. This whole state is left man so that says a lot for Mitt.

I can see John Edwards beating out both Obama and Clinton to win the nomination for their party, actually think I have been saying that all along. Have to wonder who he will chose for a running mate??? Safe to assume it wont be Kerry.

slugshooter
Re: Obama Announces his run for President [ QUOTE ] Have to wonder who he will chose for a running mate??? Safe to assume it wont be Kerry. [/ QUOTE ] I believe that's probably the safest bet anyone can make for '08. Edwards knows he would be unwinnable with Kerry, plus, since Kerry announced he won't run this time around, I think he's content to stay in the Senate, especially since he's now chair of the Foreign Relations Committee. One person I would watch for as a potential running mate would be New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson, that would basically guarantee him the hispanic vote, although I am sure they have already crunched the numbers as far as how many registered hispanic voters there are in the country and how many actually vote. If Obama drops out early or after Iowa, I wouldn't be surprised to see if Edwards picks him up much like Kerry did when Edwards dropped out in '04. I definitely don't see Hillary setting her ego aside to accept an offer as a running mate.

stevebeilgard
Re: Obama Announces his run for President i see a hillary/obama ticket in our future. and they will win. the republicans forget they are conservatives, and don't have the gumption to go against the lies of the dems. the bullies win until you put them down. on the bright side, in november we'll see newt come out of the woodwork, and he'll tell it like it is. and still lose

[/ QUOTE ] Just not so sure about that. Have heard this before and I could very well be wrong, but from the way I am seeing those two, they will get pretty bitter with attacks on each other and will not be able to put their differences aside to join forces and end up on the same ticket. stevebeilgard
Re: Obama Announces his run for President i think hillary will do whatever it takes to become the pres. and, i think obama is being "talked to" by the dem leaders already. he's really not ready yet, and hillary is the ordained... lol now, i also see a netw/condi ticket, with an excellent chance of winning. how's that for sticking my neck on the chopping block...
