No I didnt have cabbage last night.... tongue.gif

I bought 11lbs of King Crab legs last weekend (Friday). Saturday we had some family over and had crab legs. By Sunday the house WREAKED. We mopped, cleaned with 409 and bleach. You name it, still an awful smell! crazy.gif

My in laws came over yesterday while we were gone and tried to figure the mess out to no avail. My return air drains into the septic via a drain in the floor beneath the unit. We guessed the trap had dried out and allowed sewer gasses to enter the return air. Nope, not even close. I poured a gallon of water down that drain and still the house was RANK.

Finally I just got on my knees last night and crawled around the kitchen looking for the culprit. The refrigerator seemed to house the smell so we checked the meat in the freezer thinking something had spoiled we missed during the 5-days without power (ice storm). Negative. Finally we got to dragging everything out of the refrigerator and cleaning. Still wasn't helping.

Then it hit me, the drip pan. I took the grill off of the front of the fridge, pulled the pan out a fuzz, and then took a deep wiff....... BAD mistake. I literally almost blew chunks in the kitchen, immediately. It was HORRIBLE. I had no idea anything on this earth could smell like that..... And Im not joking. I was on the floor going

huuuuu shocked.gif huuuuuu shocked.gif huuuuuu shocked.gif

It was that horrific. My wife thought it was hilarious.

Come to find out my wife had put the crab legs in the refrigerator to thaw. The juices had ran down the fridge into the drip pan. Stank Crab juice had been sitting there for a couple of days....

A lot of bleach and the hose bib on the back of the house and everything is back to its rosy self. However I have learned, never go nose first into a refrigerator drip pan..... crazy.gif

Re: Good Lord in Heaven above, what is that smell!

i had something like that happen to me this year in the dorm. i started out the year with two cereal bowls. well one broke so i was down to one and one day i couldnt find it. i figured my roommate broke it or took it somewhere or sometihng. well our room started stinking and i would just get a whiff of it everyonce and a while. then one day i had enough and looked for it. i looked under my bed and in the fridge but it wasnt there. then i looked in the microwave. bad mistake. i opend it and i didnt even have to sniff it. the smell almost knocked me over. it turns out my roommate had made a bowl of ramen noodles when he was feelin better from bein sick. then he didnt feel good again and forgot them in there. man it was disgusting. i ended up throwing the bowl away too. then i came back and sprayed a bunch of frebreeze in the microwave and turned it on. probably not the best thing health wise but it cut down on the smell. when i told my roommate he thought it was the funniest thing ever. he would have had a different opinion if he was on the recieving end of the smell.

LOL that is lovely ... when I worked at the appliance store we had a tech who wasn't exactly the sharpest tool in the shed ... well someone had dropped of a refridge in the middle of the night ... well we never thought much about it and of course it was the middle of the summer ... well one day we went and opened it ... it had maggots like you wouldnt believe ... someone had left meat in the refridge ... well we closed it up and told the tech to go over and check out that refridge ... when he opened up that door you shoulda seen his reaction ... he about hurled himself .. all them maggots piled out onto the ground he jumped back about 10 ft lol ... and screemed "you cant fix that" lol it was hilarious ... you cant believe the smell that thing had I can only imagine what the smell of crab juice was ...

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A couple of years ago we had a smell in the house we couldn't find. We searched and searched, nothing. Finally I opened up the stove, and there it was, a bag of pork chops my wife had stuck in there a couple of days before that to speed up the thawing process. The bag was green and bloated.......... Needless to say, we DON'T use the stove to thaw stuff out anymore

LMBO....brings back bad memories Jeramie.

I went through that too trying to figure out the same problem after Katrina knocked out the power at my house for 6 days. Took me a week or so to figure out that the drip pan was the problem. I also got way to close to it when I pulled it out too.

BTW, in this case for sure, misery does not like company. wink.gif

Oh man, I feel your pain Jeramie.

Came home from vacation one year and the basement just stunk to high heaven. Wife went down to investigate and she came up and said "I'm not doing laundry until you get rid of that bird flying around down there."

I was like "there is no bird flying around down there..." So I went down to investigate, and I was right, there were 4 birds down there, 3 were dead, and 1 was still flying around.

Only thing we could figure is that they flew down the chimney looking for a place to nest and got trapped. Without food and water, they died. Stunk the basement pretty good. crazy.gif
