Hillbilly
If my two young female beagle pups become great rabbit hounds, I'd like to get them AKC Registered. Gonna see how they do in the next months just running rabbits during the snow.... and then a little bit more next fall.... but how do you go by registering your dogs??? Thanks! M00N
Re: How do you get your dog AKC Registered? In order to register a dog with the AKC both parents of the dog must be registered with the AKC by their owners and you would need to get this paperwork from the breeder you got the dogs from. If the parents are not registered or the breeder will not provide you with the proper paperwork to register your dogs you will not be able to register your dogs with the AKC. BowtechTurkeyHunter
Re: How do you get your dog AKC Registered? Actually you can you just have to go through all kinds of test and what not to get them registered ... it is much much easier if the parents are registered ... if not you have a very long road ahead of you ... Guest Andrea
Re: How do you get your dog AKC Registered? There's also CKC and UKC, both with less stringent rules than AKC.

Not if they didn't hunt you would be lucky to give them away. and beagles around here usually go for around $100 i'd like to be where you are $500 a piece would be nice right about now. M00N
Re: How do you get your dog AKC Registered? I agree with what Steve said, however, it's a near impossible task to do without being able to go back extensively with photo, and even some DNA proof/testing, into the dogs family tree several generations (I want to say at least grandparents on both side?). It's very expensive and mostly used by people trying to get a new breed registered/reconized or people with an exceptional dog that represents their breed near perfeclty that they wish to show in the show ring and breed its genetics into their already existing AKC lines. For the every day Joe just wanting his dog registered it's a process most find impossible to do and not worth the effort or expense. This is taken directly from the AKC website below. There are exceptions to every rule like Steve said, but I should emphasize it's expensive and a long hard road to go down with a dog. [ QUOTE ] Question: My dog is a purebred, but it didn’t come with any papers. Its parents weren’t registered. Can I still register it with AKC? Answer: No, unfortunately the sire and dam of your dog must be AKC registered and the litter, of which your dog is a member, must also have been registered to obtain an individual registration application for your dog. [/ QUOTE ] There are other clubs that are not as strict as the AKC, like Andrea mentioned, that you can register a dog through instead, if you fail the AKC registration, that will certify the health of your bloodlines if you're looking to breed, but like Steve said most breeders want AKC lines to increase the value of their dogs on the sales market. However, the registration title is only half the sale and the dogs personality and overall appearance effects the value of the dogs, too. Especially if you're looking to breed and sell as sporting dogs, not show dogs, then the registration titles are a little less important in sales as health certification, family sporting history, dog personality, and visually how the dog looks and acts. Now there is a different registration program offered by the AKC for dogs that fail the AKC registration, but are still purebreds. This program requires all dogs registered in it, though to be sterilized and unable to breed, as the AKC frowns upon unregistered dogs breeding. It's only meant to allow you to participate in AKC events (like agility) without an AKC registered dog. http://www.akc.org/reg/ilpex.cfm So, it depends on why you want your dogs AKC registered? Intending to breed and want their health certified and the name stamped on them to increase their sale value and attention to purchase? Wanting to show them in the AKC show ring? Looking to compete with them in an AKC event other than show? Or just wanted it for sentimental reasons?
wtnhunt
Re: How do you get your dog AKC Registered? Good luck. Would have to agree that the easiest way would be to get the information on the parent dogs they came from and go that route.
