blacktailslayer
I hunt in the Oregon coast range. This is a thick rain forest environment. I only got a couple of small meadows to plant seed. I could probably make a 60ft*60ft plot with NO PLOW, since I can't get any equipment 2 miles behind a locked gate. Would this be enough to attract deer, or would they eat it to fast to even make a difference?
wtnhunt
Re: Food plot Is the rain forest environment producing decent natural forage? Might be better off to help out what is already there. Dont know that a 3600 sq ft plot would be enough to really pull them away from good natural food sources if they are available in the area. blacktailslayer
Re: Food plot They have pretty good natural food sources, but I'm trying to give them the best all around diet I can. Clover, alfalfa, vitamins, minerals, buck grub deer food, etc. I could plant in a clear cut, so the deer would only feed at night, but possibly hold the deer in the area. A blacktail deer range is a mile at the most and home range 100yds to 1/2 mile. I only have one tree stand and would like to keep the bucks as close to that area as possible. wtnhunt
Re: Food plot I think rye does well there and think some seed for rye is grown in Oregon, but I really honestly dont have a clue what else to look at for that area. Rye will grow about anywhere, and rye grain is pretty attractive to deer. Might try contacting a local ag agent and see what they suggest for that area.
