Happy V-Day to you too!

I got purple roses from my dad and I guess UPS must want to be my Valentine, too. lol grin.gif I got a call just a few minutes ago saying they have my new digital camera delivery and that despite the weather it will be delivered today to me between 11am and 7pm and I have to sign for it. I wasn't expecting that to be in for another 6 days. I sure hope they pay the poor guy that drives the UPS truck very well to drive it down here. It's slick as ever out there the plow has slid off the road about 2-3 times already while trying to plow some. blush.gifcrazy.gif If I do actually get that delivered today I'll try to get some pictures of the snow out here. grin.gif

Soo we're waiting Moon. What happened? lol

They delayed the delivery until the weather clears. smirk.gif I tried to tell the person who called me on the phone that morning that the roads were not cleared down here, but she didn't listen. I was tempted to do a "I told you so" when she called back to delay, but I kept it to myself. grin.gif Then my power went out I think the wind and ice combination must blew something down so I just went to bed early yesterday instead. It was magically back on this morning.

Re: Happy V-Day ladies!

Nope no delivery not sure when I will get it. UPS sent us a notice that due to the weather shipment is on hold until futher notice and no estimate on that notice was available at this time. frown.gif Weather is horrible out here. I had my TV interrupted 3 times that I know of today for emergency broadcasts telling people to stay off the roads and announcements on highway closures across the state. I only live 5 minutes from the UPS station and they couldn't even get to us to deliver. It's a mess around here. All that snow we got had ice dumped ontop of it and that turned the snow into one solid hard ice clump. It is mpossible to shovel and is tearing up people's snowblowers left and right. You can't even play and enjoy the snow because it's basically now just a thick sheet of solid ice and if you break through it's like glass and wants to cut you up. The one neighbor brought a mini bulldozer from his work over just to clear our street for the people to have a place to park their cars, instead of everyone just parking in the middle of the road and he also helped dig out a few cars that were stuck in the ice.

Here's some quotes from our local news.

Gov. Ed Rendell today declared a statewide emergency due to the winter storm that has paralyzed the commonwealth.

“Weather conditions statewide continue to be hazardous, and PennDOT, the National Guard, state police and PEMA are still working to remove heavy snow and ice that have blocked roadways,” Rendell said. “They are also continuing to help motorists who have become stuck during the storm."

“We are urging people to avoid Interstate 78 near the Interstate 81 split, and to use extreme caution when traveling,” Rendell said.

Scores of motorists were stranded along Interstate 78 for as long as 20 hours.

PennDOT officials are advising eastbound drivers on Interstate 81 who would have taken I-78 east to drive north on I-81 instead and then pick up Interstate 80 eastbound to bypass the Berks County problems.

The disaster proclamation authorizes state agencies to use all available resources and personnel to deal with the storm, Rendell said. State, county and local agencies can avoid time-consuming bid and contract procedures that are normally required by law during a statewide emergency.

PennDOT announced that the following interstate highways will be closed from 5 p.m. today until further notice:

# I-81 north- and southbound from the Fort Indiantown Gap exit, Exit 85, to the Wilkes-Barre exit at mile post 165.

# I-80 eastbound between from milepost 241 at Lime Ridge to I-81.

# I-78 remains closed between Exit 19 and Exit 49. All vehicles and stranded motorists have been removed, but snow removal operations will continue.

Next thing I have to worry about is the Susquehanna River borders our backyard. If the ice jams on the river and floods we're going to get hit bad. I really hope the ice melts slowly and doesn't become giant iceburgs that come in with the flood water and smash things. 1996 we had an ice jam flood on the river and the old house we used to have here, that this one was built to replace, was completely knocked off its foundation by an iceburg from the ice jam coming in with the flood waters. crazy.gif
