Need help picking new rest and sight

Ok.. tomorrow I am going to Gander Mountain to get a new rest and a new sight.

For rest's I am looking at the WB, any of the NAP Quiktunes or a Trophy Taker rest.

My question to you guys about these rests is.. what are the advantages/disadvantages of a fall away rest vs a drop away vs a prong rest ?

I shot the WB for 3 years and really like it, but don't know if I want to go back to it.

As for sights, I have narrowed it down to either a Trophy Ridge 3 pin or the Cobra Sidewinder 3 pin.

I have $130 to spend, so lay it on me. And yes, if I have to I will spend it all.

Also, I have a question for those of you who shoot Trophy Ridge sights with the vertical pins.. I know how for horizontal pin sights the top pin is for close range and the further down you go the pins are for farther ranges, well how does that work with the Trophy Ridge sights? Is the tallest pin for closest range and the shorter the pins get the farther a shot they are meant for?

Thanks.. Joe

Did you like the WB rest? Were you comfortable with your WB rest? I use one and doubt Ill ever go with anything else.

Also, the pins are the same whether you use a horizonal or vertical pins. There just placed in a different position. I have a TR Micro Matrix 5 pin. It has .019" pins. I have no problems seeing my pins in low light. I also have the sight light as well. If you get the TR sight, dont even bother with them light sticks they make! There junk, but thats the only thing about TR sights are bad, them light sticks just dont light up the pins as well as the battery one they make.

One more thing, if you go with TR. Make sure the sight you get has the newer housing. They are a lot tougher and built way stronger than the older ones! Personally, if I were going with TR, I would get either the Matrix or the Micro Matrix. Then save up for another WB rest! JMO!

Re: Need help picking new rest and sight

I see guys saying on here use a WB if you plan to use it for hunting, I use a drop away and use it for hunting so either one is a great choice but I have to side with the drop aways.

You now have ones out there that capture the arrow and most of us do not stalk deer so that old myth of crawiling through the brush and not wanting the arrow to fall off is just that, you can stalk with a drop away if you wish.

If you get one you will notice better grouping and they work awesome. Some say too many moving parts to fail but I have never had an issue with mine and I have used the Trap Door, NAP 4000, and the Ripcord. No issues, they all work good.

As for the sight, the Cobra sidewinder is a good choice, the pins are very bright. I have a FUSE Buckhorn 300 which is basically a Cobra sidewinder, as Cobra makes them for Fuse, I think Fuse just adds the fancy mount (deer head design). That is a good sight.

Get what you can afford but make sure your buying something from a good company. Cobra has top notch service and NAP is one of the best out there too.

So I would get the drop away rest from NAP, make sure it will work because the cable version works off your cable guard as it slides on that and if you have a Mathews it will not work due to the roller guard.

Re: Need help picking new rest and sight

As far as drop awyats check out the Limbdriver by Vapor Trails. I shot a WB for years and swore I would never ever shoot a drop away. But the Limbdriver is the ONLY drop away that does not interfere with the timing of your bow. Go to the VaporTrails website and check it out.

Re: Need help picking new rest and sight

Ok well.. I went with the Cobra Sidewinder Radiant 3-pin and a WB. I got great deals on both at the local shop. He told me because I was a regular I got the discounts. The Cobra Sidewinder was $79.99, he marked it down to $65 for me and the WB was $59.99 and he marked it down to $49 for me. Talk about a sweet deal. My dad also ordered a new string for his recurve there. I will definitely be doing some more business over there.

Here's a pic:

Also, what I thought was sweet was that the Cobra Sidewinder came with the light already installed!! I didn't even have to buy it separately. The pins are ultra bright without the light too!! Can't wait to shoot now!!

The standard drop away cable attaches to your bow cable. After time this can start to affect the performance of your bow. Go to Archery Talk .com and do a search there are people there that can explain it better.

Never heard that one....maybe if it is set up too tight with the rest coming up too soon?
