Re: Marlin 336C in 35 Remington

Ive got one and have killed lots of deer with it. Great for hunting when you can not see any further than 100 yards. I reload for mine and its accurate for a lever action. its plenty accurate enough to kill deer all day at 100 yards. recoil is not bad but i shoot 158 grain bullets. if your recoil shy shoot 170.

Re: Marlin 336C in 35 Remington

It's a step up from the Winchester 94 in quality. At least the ones made within the last 15 years or so. The accuracy will be good enough to kill deer out to 200 yards, the cartridge kind of looses its usefullness at 200 yards. Energy drops below 800 ft/lbs and the bulet's trajectory is dropping very fast. As for shooting through brush, its like all other cartridges, it sucks. Nothing is good for shooting through brush.

Re: Marlin 336C in 35 Remington

I think the term " brush gun " has been taken out of context a long time. Seems as a lot of people think the .35, 30-30, and .44 mag are superior to shoot through brush. I don't think this term was ever intended to describe the performance of a cartridge in brushy conditions. It was termed to describe a gun which is slimmer and shorter to be easier to handle through brushy terrain.

If I wanted a true brush gun it would be a 155 mm. howitzer. Set the tube add 5 bags of powder and send the 96# projectile down range. Now you have a clear path void of brush in which to use your other " brush gun ". LOL!!

Re: Marlin 336C in 35 Remington

I have a marlin 336 RC in .35 Remington. It was my dads favorite deer rifle. He killed alot of deer with that little rifle. He gave it to me because he is no longer able to get out and hunt. This particular rifle was made in 1966, and it will still put 3 shots into a 2" triangle at 100 yards with the factory iron sights. Recoil is light and maximum killing range on game would be around 200 yards with standard ammo and around 250 yards with the new Hornady Leverevolution ammo. The 200 grain slug is best suited to this caliber and it really packs a wallop on deer.

One more...wait!

Take a look at the New Hornady Lever Revolution ammo in .35 rem

You will be impressed on how well this shoots and the improved ballistics that is gives. My buddy hunted this year with a old 1964 Marlin 336 Marauder with a factory 16'1/4" bbl in 35 rem. You had to see the groups he was printing. Give that ammo a try , you won't be dissapointed. wink.gif

Re: Marlin 336C in 35 Remington

A high school classmate of my son's was given his Grandpa's 35 Rem (a Remington pump) when the Grandpa passed away last year. We invited the boy to deer camp with us and went target shooting a few weeks before to get him sighted in. I researched this caliber a bit and learned that it's been around for a long time and killed many deer (and black bear). Ballistics are similar to 30-30 but many swear the 35 Rem hits harder. Also many swear by the 200 grain bullets, which is what the Grandpa had used and what we sighted in with.

So it's an Old School caliber that's killed plenty of whitetails and will do just fine with the traditional ammo if your shots are 100 yds or so. Good Luck!
