Re: What do i really need

I'm a beginer and use the Arizona EZ Fletch for carbon arrows set with a right helical. I use Blazers (2") and Fletch Tite Platinum on custom wraps. I used ebay for mine and found I couldn't beat the prices from individuals or the ebay stores.

It'll take a little while to save money since you're spending some first, but the advantage is you can change fletching styles and colors and repair any time you want.

I too am starting to do my own arrows, it'll be alot easier to replace vanes by myself! I got a Grayling jig off ebay brand new, heard it was like a Bitz just a plastic version. Ebay is a good place to look for stuff, also over on Archery Talk they have a big classified section and you may find what you want there.

Cutting carbon arrows with inadequate equipment is extremely dangerous. Cut wrong chances are very good you have permanently damaged that end of the arrow. This damage can let go unexpectedly when shooting the arrow.

A quality high speed arrow cutter is hard to justify. Most places cut shafts to your specific length cheap or even free.

The AZ easy fletch is cool and easy to use. Just don't squeeze it too hard and wrinkle the fletchings. You'll get the hang of it quickly enough.

Un less you go through alot of arrows an arrow saw isn't a good investment for you. They aren't cheap and I wouldn't recommend anything less than a quality one like Apple Archery makes, for example. If you only go through about a dozen shafts a year, just get a Pro Shop to cut them for you.

Fletching jigs are mostly user friendly and just take some pratice with using them. I prefer the Jo-jan fletcher in a single fletch. Its a slow process with doing one fletch at a time but it gives you a good equal fletching job on every shaft. Check out a coupleof Pro Shops in the area and see what they are using to give you some idea of what you might want to purchase. Fletching your own arrows is fun and cost saving, have fun doing it. Some extras you might want are alcohol to clean the shafts, your preference of glue-I use Fletch-tite in the white tube. Some 400 grit sand paper to rough up the fletching surface, get a clear rubber worm box for a assortment of fletchings if you want to shoot different colors of fletchings-it keep them flat and neat. Just a couple of ideas.
