Swamphunter
I am looking for a good Kodak digital camera for around $200 - $300. I want high optical zoom mostly, plus decent pixels. Any recommendations?
wtnhunt
Re: Recommend a digital camera Ken, if I were you, I would get a sony before getting a kodak. In that price range you should be able to get a nice little point and shoot. Sony has an 8.1 mp cybershot in that price range($228 online at butterfly photo), the w100. Camera only has a 3X optical zoom though. Might also look at the canon a640, a 10 mp camera with a 4X optical zoom, but it is going to run a little more than the sony and is probably priced around $300. M00N
Re: Recommend a digital camera I just got a new Kodak Easyshare Z612 (6.1MP | 12X Stabilized Optical Zoom) from my parents as an early birthday gift. You can get just the standard camera on Amazon for under $300. It's in my journal if you're interested on the SPECS on it. You can buy an adapter and use some 55mm lenses on it, too. I got the telephoto and wide angle lenses with mine for a bit more price. I think it's a really nice high zoom camera for the money. The key to high zoom digital cameras is make sure you get one that has Stabilized Optical Zoom built into it or the Zoom is hard to take clear pictures with freehand without a tripod. Ignore Digital zoom it's rather useless in quality of the pictures it takes.
birddog
Re: Recommend a digital camera You can't go wrong with the Kodak easyshare: I am on my 3rd....yes third DX -6340 it is only 3.1 mega pixels, but I love the camera. I have had people ask if the photos were done professionally, I dropped one down an ice hole, bought a second off ebay, then in January I took a spill on an ice fishing trip and landed on my 2nd camera, picked up a 3rd from a private seller, I paid 299 for the first 110 for the second and 52 for the third, and each worked awesome! I bought my mom a Kodak 6.1 mega pixel for Christmas and they just returned from Costa Rica with some amazing pics and she had no clue how to work the camera! For ease of use and great pics, you just can't go wrong with any of the Kodaks...IMO:
bigmoss
Re: Recommend a digital camera If your budget can handle $300 or a little more I would highly recommend the Canon S3, It is a 6MP 12X Zoom with Image Stabilization. I have owned the S1, S2 and now an S3 by far the best yet. You will get professional looking pics for allot less spent.

The photo quality competes with my brothers professional SLR. Plus you can put filters on the separately sold adapter and boost your manification with the Telephoto adapter sold separately. The macro and supermacro modes are very good as well.
