Leo
Re: Africa [ QUOTE ] Whereabouts in the Limpopo province were you hunting and who were you hunting with? [/ QUOTE ] I was hunting just outside of Ellisras. At Adansonia Safaris run by Mof Venter. My wife got the trip for me at an Auction at an incredibly low price. (Don't ask how low, I'm not telling since the auctioneer asked me not too.)

Guest Colorado Bob
Re: Africa Leo-----Small world. I also hunted in the limpopo province. I hunted with Koos Van Niekerk, he was PH for Lumbata Safaris. He has his own hunting lodge near Ellisras. It's called Timela. Did you do a tour of Kruger National Park while you were there? My next time over I plan on another tour of the park. The animals next time are wildebeest & maybe an eland. I got an oryx/gemsbuck at the White Sands Missile range in New Mexico. He was a pretty good bull 39" horn & 7" bases. My safari cost me $3000---for everything from the time I got off the plane till I boarded to come back to the USA. I'm going back---yes sir. CB [/ QUOTE ] I did not go to Kruger. I never got the chance. It's unlikely you'll beat your White Sands 39" bull gemsbok in South Africa. Maybe in Namibia. I took absolutely the biggest bull gemsbok I saw on my 10 day Safari. He was 35 1/2" with 7 1/2" bases. Some of the cows I saw were over 40" but cow horns are much slimmer. IMO, the heavy rings on the base of a bull's horns really add character. A 32" bull where I was is considered a shooter. I found, they are very spooky animals when they are hunted regularly. And here they were hunted hard! I tried for 8 days to get one with a bow, it just wasn't going to happen. On the afternoon of Day 8 I borrowed a rifle and got real real lucky. This is him. I consider them the prettiest straight horned antelope period.
Guest Colorado Bob
Re: Africa Leo-------Real nice oryx. Did you have them mount & sent back? I did mine but when I go back again, I'll probably just take a bunch of photos & leave the horns there. CB
Leo
Re: Africa They will be mounted here. Actually a guy in Colorado is doing the work. Shipping on fully mounted trophies from Africa is horrendously expensive. You'll eat up anything you save on the job doing it there plus some. Shipping is charged by cube size NOT weight. Mounts take up LOTS OF SPACE. They have some absolutely outstanding taxidermists in South Africa (Lifeforms comes to mind) but the shipping is a deal killer. There are also, just like here, some "bubba" taxidermists over there. I've seen their work, it won't last . The photo thing was what I planned on doing originally. I got some great picts too. But sometimes, you just gotta have the mount, you can't help it.
JamesVee
Re: Africa It's costing me $1600 to get my trophies shipped back by boat from S.A. Blue Wildebeest Impala Blesbok Full Mount Duiker Full Mount Steenbok
Guest Colorado Bob
Re: Africa I think my shipping was rite at $2000. I had the work done over there. You are correct Leo---it costs about the same either way you go. Are you getting the oryx with a 90 degree turn? They sure are a beautiful animal & make a great mount. Next time----just photos. Taxidermy work----you could almost do another hunt for the cost. CB
JamesVee
Re: Africa Here are a few of my pictures from when I was there: Steenbok. Not the largest by any means, but it was my last afternoon to hunt. My Duiker. My Impala. My Wildebeest. The shot was back, but not as far back as it looks in the picture. The bull was quartering away when I took the shot. My Blesbok. A Zebra that I shot for a client. I was able to partake in a number of other hunts, including a hunt for lion, hippo, and also a green hunt for white rhino.
Leo
Re: Africa Animals havested in S.A. and taxidermied in S.A. are subject to VAT tax by law. Is that $1600 including VAT and the taxidermy or just "crate and ship"? Those are nice animals, James. The zebra is a particularly sharp one. Here are some more of my picts. My Duiker. My Impala My Kudu

PM me an email address-----I've got my photos in an email but I'm not smart enough to post them here. Hopefully someone can for me. Guest WEAVER
Re: Africa Hi ya'll I didn't realize there was an Africa thread. I hunt in the Limpopo area with Hannes Els of Limcroma Safaris. He is going to visit me on March 16th for a week. I had several great safaris with him. I love Africa. My favorite animal to hunt with the bow is Guineafowl. They are everywhere. This is the biggest animal I shot in Africa with my bow. Eland. Take care, Ty

Leo
Re: Africa [ QUOTE ] i think africa would be a blast there so many animals to hunt [/ QUOTE ] It is! These animals not only look different from each other, they act different. They all have different territories and habits. The best advice I can give anyone who is even considering trying a trip to africa is make up your mind which animals you want the most BEFORE you go. Also prioritize those animals based on the outfitters advice on which is the most difficult. Go for the harder ones first.
