Turkeygirl
Trying to decide how many arrows to get. I found a good source online for Beman ICS Hunter 500 arrows - $58 for a dz or $30 for a half dozen - inserts, nocks, and cut to your length included. I currently just have 6 Bemans that have been my practice and hunting arrows for the last 2 years. Should I just get 6 more or get a whole dz, at 25.5" long? I'm going to be shooting my Rintec XL for several years to come...not planning on a new bow anytime soon, lol.
Tom2008
Re: Hmm...how many? Go with a dozen definatley. Your saving a couple of bucks and you'll have a lot of arrows to be able to shoot with. This way you'll always have a back-up arrow if needed. Nick
Re: Hmm...how many? Yeah, definately start with a dozen. The last time I bought arrows was two years ago. Gander Mountain was changing locations and wanted to get rid of all their inventory at the old store. They had 3 dozen of the Easton Excel 400's I shoot for $40 a dozen so I snatched up all 3 dozen. BowtechTurkeyHunter
Re: Hmm...how many? Depends how much you shoot ... last set of arrows I bought I bought 2 dozen ... but I shoot alot ... start with a dozen Steve
buckee
Re: Hmm...how many? I'd definately get a dozen. I've always found that there are always a couple or three in a dozen arrows, that for whatever reason, just don't fly true like the rest, so I put them aside. Besides, you can never have too many
Guest psefirestormlite
Re: Hmm...how many? start with a dozen hopefully next year you will only have to buy six or maybe none at all. you just have to think long term investment
PAstringking
Re: Hmm...how many? i would start with a dozen...i bought 1/2 dozen CE Maxima 350's a year or so ago and they are doing great but i always wish i had a few more for back up... i also hate when i ruin like 3 in one day... dartonman
Re: Hmm...how many? Depending on your budget....if you can swing two dozen, do it....shoot them all, then keep the best dozen for hunting only..........it will work out in the end............and number the best of the best, I never have gotten past number 3 in a hunting season...but its great to have options....when I shot with Billkay, and Handgunner at a 3d shoot, it pays to have enough arrows...........lol.....al
magnatecsteve
Re: Hmm...how many? Like dartonman said, you'll want to select some of the best flyers for hunting, so I would say at least a dozen...shoot 6 and pick 6 for hunting. Do a spin check to see if you have any wobblers. Leo
Re: Hmm...how many? Hunting costs you arrows. It just does. They definately get broken more shooting game at animals than any other thing. Plus you're odds of losing an arrow are way higher hunting. If you loose just two arrows hunting and you've only started with six that makes ya real nervous. Practice eats arrows too. If you shoot one into a target enough you can crack it or damage it just doing that. Granted it takes a pile of shots to do that but I promise you can do it. I've done it with both carbons and aluminums. Hitting one arrow with another shortens their life, just stacking tight groups takes its toll. A "robinhood" is instant gratification and an instant loss of two arrows. For that reason I only try for real tight groups if I'm trying to adjust my sights. I find I need to buy a dozen every year. I wouldn't be too concerned even if you get a new bow. Odds are pretty good those arrows will work with the new equipment unless your set up changes dramatically. (ie. overdraw, your drawlength changes or drawweight changes) That's a good price on Bemans BTW. Are those fletched? What's the online link? AdvantageTimberLou
Re: Hmm...how many? get a dozen that way you will have them for many years to come and you will have some great practice arrows. Hate to see you want more down the road and can't find any and have to switch makes.

maytom
Re: Hmm...how many? After buying a new Switchback back in the fall of 2005, I also went with some new arrows( Easton Axis), site, rest, string loop, etc. Knowing that you always loose an arrow here or there at times when target shooting outdoors, I figured it would be better to get 2 dozen altogether. Now I won't have to worry about arrows, hopefully for quite sometime!!
c_lou
Re: Hmm...how many? I like what Dartonman said. Get 2 dozen, if you can swing it, and shoot them all and find the best 6-9 and number them. That's what I did when I bought my last arrows. Now I have 12 labeled and ready to use for only hunting. The rest I target shoot with.
BKE
Re: Hmm...how many? Wow, maybe my local shop isn't so bad after all (actually I really like the guy). He ha s set me up with a new bow after many years being out of it and arrows are 49.95 a Doz., cut, with nocks, vanes, inserts and field points. Am I getting a good deal or is it that the quality of arrow isn't up to what most prefer? Easton Carbon Storms w/4in vanes but probably not top shelf ones. tlott89
Re: Hmm...how many? i have 8 i use for target/hunting and 2 of them now are in my case waiting for new vanes and i had half of dozen arrows my dad bought me for painting his boat but i broke one on my deer i got this last season so i have 5 brand new ones.so all togther i have just over 1 doz
Guest davidmil
Re: Hmm...how many? It would depend on where you're getting them from. Me, I support my local archery shop. No one in Timbucktwo selling out of a back alley warehouse district cares about my success and equipment as much as my proshop. I can get arrows cheaper a lot of places but I prefer to support the local shop. Along with that mutual support I get things like, being able to spin and weigh my arrows before I buy them picking out the straightest. And yes, there are a lot of crooked brand new carbon arrows out there. There are a lot of NOT so true arrows produced. Obviously they don't go to the pro shooters, but likewise.... they aren't thrown away. Who do you think gets them. I'd really worry about what I was getting from a bargain barn. Many of us put $1000 in our bows by the time we deck it all out... so why would we put a iffy projectile on the string.
Turkeygirl
Re: Hmm...how many? Well I got a dozen from a guy on AT who owns a pro shop, and he gave me a good deal. It is always good to know who to stay away from and why! I am glad you found a good deal on your arrows. I was going to suggest a dozen as well. You never have enough.
