Re: WISCONSIN!!!!

The Big Ten tourny should be fun this year. I still think the young Buckeyes are only going to continue to improve with each of every game they play though. I think OSU will walk about with the Big Ten title, but it would be nice to see two Big Ten teams in the Final Four this year. cool.gif

Re: WISCONSIN!!!!

It's about time. I couldn't understand how Wisconsin could have more wins, fewer losses and even a win over OSU and not be ranked about them.

Looks like they might be getting some respect. If this team played in a big market, like in Florida, they would have been ranked #1 a long, long time ago. Can't wait for the next OSU match up. It should definately be another great game.

Still hard to believe that Ohio State got the nod as #1 in the ESPN poll with losses to UNC, Wisconsin and Florida.

[/ QUOTE ]

yeah i don't understand that either...shouldn't you at least be able to beat them before being ranked ahead of them? all 3 losses are to top 5 teams...and not one team that they have beat is currently in the top 25...and honestly...greg oden isn't playing like i thought he would...numbers wise he isn't very impressive...i don't think he is 100 percent health wise and it wouldn't surprise me if he stayed another year to better prepare himself for the NBA.

Umm...what's hard to understand about that? Those are their only losses, and all came on the oppositions home courts (all were Top 5 teams at the time too). The UNC loss came while Oden was not playing, and the Wisconsin loss was one of Oden's first games back while he was shooting with his left hand because his dominant, right hand, was still only about 40%.

As far as the non-impressive Oden numbers I will say this, STATS ARE FOR NERDS. You can't go by the numbers all the time boys. Don't go MCH and BB11 on me now. grin.gif

How anyone could actually watch him play and not be impressed is a mystery. The bottomline on Sportscenter will tell you how many points, rebounds, blocks someone may have had...what it won't tell you is the big picture. wink.gif

Jordan was pretty flashy, wouldn't you say??

7-footers with Oden's type of athletism are not that easily found. Matter-of-fact, I'm sure you can count the great ones on one hand.

Shaq, Kareem, Hakeem...who else?

Could you imagine if Detroit would have taken Wade with that pick. shocked.gif Scary team right there.

[/ QUOTE ]

Wade would've had a harder time making the Pistons "his" team.

BTW--You don't think it's possible that 2 years from now we could be saying the same thing if Oden goes number 1 and Durant number2??

Nope. They'll both be good, can't go wrong with either one. Besides, Oden is not some obscure 19 yeard old dude from Germany who's three missed meals away from being considered anorexic.

I'm not so sure I wouldn't take Durant #1 anyway. He just may be the next Kevin Garnett.

Muggsy, seriously man, you need to get a different argument other then "numbers don't mean squat...blah blah blah blah blah". You say this in every other post, and then 30 minutes later in another thread you are throwing out stats left and right.

Maybe you should rephrase it too "numbers and stats don't mean squat unless I use them in an argument, then they mean everything"

Re: WISCONSIN!!!!

The following is Muggsy's more detailed explanation of what he means when he says "STATS ARE FOR NERDS" and "they don't show you the big picture." I apologize, but this is a necessary step so slower RT members (like BB11) can follow along and play too:

Oden usually puts out around 15-19 points, around a dozen rebounds, and about 5 blocks.

Pretty good numbers, but they won't blow you away like Durant's. But those figures don't show what a moster, physical guy clogging the lane and dominating on the low-post can bring to a team.

When you have a 7-footer who can do the things Oden does...everyone around him immediately becomes better. Its sorta like how me coming in this forum collectively raises the overall sports IQ of this place. wink.gif

Oden getting double-teamed down low will open up the perimeter for guys like Conley Jr. and Ron Lewis. He'll also take away the oppositions inside game.

Durant can score 40 points and grab 20 rebounds and his team will still lose. He's the Kobe of the NCAA.

Now, consider yourself shredded...next arguement please, this is a closed case bud. smirk.gif

thats my point...3 top five teams (all still in the top 5)...3 losses...yet they are still ranked ahead of them in the espn/coaches poll...they are a top five team...but NO WAY are they number one or should they be in any poll. make excuses for why they lost all you want, but they still lost to theses teams...if they rely on just that one player to help them win games and have to use him being hurt as an excuse for losing...well that just proves my point even more.

as for the stats..they are what they are..they are not made up numbers...they are what they put up...for a so called future nuber one pick...15 and 9 aren't very impressive to me.

That's why you need to listen to me more SQ2. grin.gif

You ask any NBA coach or scout...a 7-footer with that sort of body control is special. Stats are for nerds...they don't paint the picture.

If the box score was so important, why would scouts waste their time traveling to watch games...just pick up the local paper for 50 cents and you've got it all figured out. grin.gif

Re: WISCONSIN!!!!

I hate when I have to do this, but I agree with Muggs. (Now I will go take a shower)

While Durant may be the next KG, tell me how many rings does KG have?? If he doesn't have somebody to get him the ball, he can be easily taken out of the game. Once Texas figures out to run the offense through him, then lookout. If they don't do this in the tourney, they may not get past the Sweet 16.

While Oden may me the next Shaq(ok nobody is the next Shaq, but you get where I am going) he will dominate the middle.

The thing I don't like about Oden is his agressiveness, or lack there of. All the games I have watched, he just seems uniterested in the game. If he were to somehow acquire a mean streak, then lookout, but right now he is too much Dwight Howard and not enough Shaq.
