Strut10
Re: winchester model 70 270 wby? There's one on Guns America for $515. That includes shipping & a hard case. Gun is 98% and fired 9 rounds. I might try to talk your guy down a snad depending on the scope. If it's a Leupold or Burris on quality mounts it means something. If it's a $49 Bushnell or Tasco it adds ZERO to the price IMHO.

Strut10
Re: winchester model 70 270 wby? Safety question here: Will the Model 70 .270 Wby. have the Weatherby-type freebore?? If not.....it would not be safe to shoot the Weatherby factory ammo, would it??

AJ
Re: winchester model 70 270 wby? Yes, it should have the freebore. I know if you order a custom gun chambered for a Wby cartridge, the SAAMI reamers come with the freebore. I had my Rem700 throated for my ammo without the freebore. Since I have no intention of shooting factory ammo in it its no big deal.
Strut10
Re: winchester model 70 270 wby? [ QUOTE ] i have no clue what that means lol [/ QUOTE ] Freebore is (basically) a portion of the barrel just in front of the chamber that has no rifling. It allows the bullet to get a "jump" before it engages the rifling, thus allowing the cartridge to generate less initial pressure.............so you can load it up hotter. If you took a hot load intended for a rifle with freebore and fired it in a rifle without the freebore, it would (could) cause a severe pressure spike that may lead to a dangerous situation. But it sounds like you won't have to worry about it.
Guest jeremyj
Re: winchester model 70 270 wby? i will be shooting weatherby factory ammo in it that is what he used and no problems maybe i won't either don't know lol
bowana
Re: winchester model 70 270 wby? Factory 270 Weatherby Mag ammo generally has the same COL. Of course it depends on bullet style. The “Freebore” that AJ is referring to is to accommodate for the extreme velocity and chamber pressure created by the round. I generally get around 3430 FPS out of my Fibermark using Nosler Accubond bullets. I feel the 270 Weatherby round is as close as you can get to the ideal deer round. Of course I'm on that endless quest (40 rifles and counting), but for now I will boldly make this statement.
