Who at the current moment has the best chance of becoming president for republicans?

If the vote was tomorrow id have to vote for mccain. I dont know if I like guiliani.

Lets put it this way

I really dont like the democrats right now.

Im a staunch supporter of the war, and right now theyre trying to undermine everything.

The day i vote for hillary or Obama are the day someone has to shoot me. LOL grin.gif

McCain is too soft on immigration for my taste.

[/ QUOTE ]

I agree with that!

I am leaning towards Rudy!

I know he is pro-choice, but that is OK! I don't like his stand on guns though!

He certainly would be better than Hillary or Obama!

Re: Who has the best chance for Republicans

At this very point in time if the elections were held right now, I am afraid that McCain would be the likely to get my vote. Just something about Rudy, dont think I would vote for him.

If however Huckabee can get to the point he has the support and was to get the nomination which unfortunately I just dont realistically see happening, I would vote for him no question about it.

Re: Who has the best chance for Republicans

all we really have to look at so far are liberal democrats or liberal republicans. take your pick. me, i wouldn't vote for the first time in 44 years, because we don't have a candidate on either side. i still think newt will jump in, and even with the press hating him, with debates he's got a good chance.

or my former governor Mike Huckabee on the Rep ticket. Both very unappologetic conservatives.

[/ QUOTE ]i used to live in AR and knew mike huckabee personaly. he's a great guy but i dont think there is any chance of him running. i realy dislike all of the republicans out there right now. guiliani supports gun control and abortion so as far as im concerned if he runs then the liberals win either way

Think he has made it official that he is running, I dont think however he has enough national recognition at this point to get the nomination.

[/ QUOTE ]

And who was Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton or George W. when they ran? Just unknown Governors of their states. Maybe Huckabee can overcome the Clinton legacy for Arkansas.

Granted, but at least look at it this way. Could you imagine saying President Huckabee? Doesn't sound very presidential does it? grin.gif

Not saying it cannot happen, would be great to see him get the nomination and get elected. He has a lot of work to do though.

I had that thought, too. But, then, the name "clinton" sounded very presidential. The man was a disgrace to the office and an insult to honest Americans. So maybe a name like "Huckabee" could do us all proud.

Re: Who has the best chance for Republicans

The way I see it is this:

McCain....already strumbling and losing ground quickly. He has degraded to making absurd statements trying to find an audience. Just had a huge article in a major paper about how his candidacy is fading very fast. Most people just tolerate him, he doesn't inspire people.

Rudy can't win. If you look at the block of firm and possible republican voters, then carve off the gun rights people, anti-abortion crowd, and the anti-gay single issue voters, he can't win. I know, if they don't vote for Rudy in the General, Hillary (who also supports these same issues) will win. But to these single issue voters, all that matters is that THEY didn't vote for Rudy....the others can give an account for their votes and the fact the Hillary was elected.

No other possibles carry the name recognition to compete with Clinton.

I think, hoestly, that if the republicans are going to win, they are going to have to come hard right and get back to the Reagan principles. They need every single voter from the Republicans united. In my mind, that leaves only one person who can mobilize the Republican base and that is Newt Gingrich. Despite his personal life issues, he is a brilliant politician and a devout historian.

At this point, I see him as our best shot.

i just pray that we dont get hillary or obama in office. if that happens and they get re elected i predict communism by the end of the second term adn gun control by the end of the first

I would say that's a bit of a stretch of the imagination.

Re: Who has the best chance for Republicans

According to a recent poll, Rudy is the frontrunner as far as nominee's for the Republicans. John McCain also stated today that he feels the best candidate for the Republicans would be Tom Ridge. Which is a name I haven't seen brought up on here in regards to nominee's.
